The squad thread

Our owner and owner of Olympiacos is about to invest in Rio Ave. they have 6 Brazilians on their books. Could be a useful placement for young lads needing experience of European football but not ready for the challenge of foreign language and premier league.

Aguillera comes to mind for January maybe?

Aguilera is too good for them. EM has bought an 80% share in the club for £20m. Aguilera is increasingly likely to be in main squad. Some U21’s could go for 6 month stint but more likely is some unheard of 18 year old Brazilian move across. Rio Ave becomes a feeder club for Oly and ourselves.

Does MGW suit our style of play?
He isnt a ten cos cant score goals and he isnt a midfieder cos gives possession away too much. Will he be better on the wing than an Elanfga or CHO? He feels a bit of a forced piece right now

so somewhere with the same language and still get no prem experience, sounds like a catch 22 :)

this...but west ham are after him.

if Marinakis is serious about promotion we need to spend next season 100M on someone like Ferguson or Toney and do it properly :D Cant be expecting miracles from a biscuit striker and 2 has beens.,
Our main target 'seems' to be Serhou Guirassy who is obviously the more likely option

The problem is, if big M decided to spend £100 million on one of the best strikers, would they actually join us anyway ? Far more likely they will be looking for Champions League and titles. Our main hope is to find a few more like Murillo, who we can develop . There must be some decent young strikers out there, but I guess all the clubs will be after them.

He needs to move into the three or on to the bench or we need to change formation to accommodate things.

As Cooper is unlikely to do any of these things, this is what will eventually cost him his job.

Looked great end of last season, injured, maybe not fully match fit yet.

Poor on Saturday, but maybe another game would see him slot that chance inside the post. I'd put Yates in for Dominguez against Everton, then Sangare for Danilo if fit, And Felipe for Niakhate if fit.

Might go against the grain . He is young and learning but more often than not if pay attention to his overall performances they haven't been great at all when broken down per match.

Only way he Will learn is by playing.

Going to be interesting what squad tweaks we can pull off in January.

Will the 3 loans go back? Origi, Santos and Tavares? Santos will in all probability but surely Arsenal and Milan can reject any request to do so? Purely because who would take them

Ideally we get Leandro and a winger. What’s the reality in terms of the profile of CF and winger could get? Guirassy, Leandro, Murphy, anyone else…?

Nino has gone quiet. We have 2 premier league games only in January but have Boly, Aurier, Niakhate, Aina and Sangare missing.
Felipe, Worrall and Oma are the options alongside Murillo.

Sangare out means Yates in against Arsenal and Brentford at least.

RB will be Montiel or Williams. I think we will need possibly 4 in, 3 if we decide to keep Felipe and Mckenna. Santos will be gone and Kouyate should be
Wonder if EM loans us an Oly CM to go along with a search for a CF and a winger

I do think Montiel should be given a go. I can't believe that someone who can make an Argentinian World Cup winning squad isn't good enough to offer us something, though he does seem to be another one who's better going forwards than defending.

I thought Montiel Williams was an American day time TV host.

Danilo. Is he good enough. Discuss.
There is no doubt he looked poor on Saturday I’m not sure it’s to do with fitness as he was running about like a headless chicken. Looked to me more like that he wasn’t sure what his job was within the team hence the headless chicken impersonation.

While on the subject of players knowing their roles within the team both Danilo & Sangare were bought as DCM’s but both are being played out of position. Mangala although he has been excellent in the DCM role his natural position is further forward, just like the situation with our old friend Freuler from last year he came with reputation as “The Conductor” but we used him as a DCM & then wondered why he wasn’t very good.

Would be a good starting point if we played players in their natural positions. Round pegs in round holes (and that is not a trap 2 reference)
