The run in

I’m honestly amazed that 10pts is your worst-case scenario for us. With injuries piling up, I think all of our games look loseable. Worst-case for me is a few more injuries, leading to us getting 5pts or 6pts, and leaving the door wide open.

Then again, there’s no way on earth I see 3 of the 4 teams behind us going unbeaten for the rest of the season. Even Southampton are a bit more unpredictable an opponent now they’ve got rid of another manager and are under no pressure. And they have occasionally given teams a game (like us and Liverpool).

We’re bigging up Villa and Newcastle a lot but their run-ins don’t look any better or worse than their previous runs of 7 or 8 matches, where both sides have managed 2ppg or thereabouts.

I take the point on injuries, but I’ve also given us 2 wins from 7… we’ve not shown form as bad as that even once throughout the season. Don’t forget, except for Chelsea, every team we play is bottom half - we’ve beaten every single team in the bottom half this season home and away except for 2 points dropped against Wolves.

Other than arguably beating Everton on Saturday, where else do you want me to lessen the points value? We could just as easily take 6 points from west ham and spurs and beat Chelsea and Brentford

Forest will not lose 3 0 to Tottenham Hotspur. Nobody loses 3 0 to Tottenham Hotspur, even worst team in history Southampton.
Except Everton (0-4), Man Utd (0-3), West Ham (1-4), Aston Villa (1-4), Man City (0-4), Southampton (0-5) and Ipswich (1-4)

I'm still holding on to the fact that if we slip out of the CL places, its far from unrecoverable for the club.
We'll end up selling some big players and having to rebuild, but also we'll get rich and have opportunities, so no matter what we can already be happy with the possible outcomes.

I think Saturday is one of our hardest remaining games, and one we could easily lose - just drawing that game takes us to 8pts in a worst-case scenario. Everton have lost twice in the league under Moyes, to Liverpool and Aston Villa, both times by a single goal.

They won’t come to our place and let us play deep and counter, either, they’ll let us have the ball. Frankly, if we beat Everton on Saturday, I’ll be getting the cigars out because I give us no chance of fucking it up from there.

Everton are a bit tricky and as you state are much improved under Moyes. They do play all our rivals bar Villa. Tricky for us and tricky for them.

It's not like we've bet anything financially on it. Our transfer dealings this summer were not designed to get us finishing this high and we saved money in January

Fulham have just beaten Liverpool. They are probably just outside contenders for CL but strong for Europa L. Only Newcastle and ourselves do not play them. Think they may have a bigger say than is shown. As good a reasoning as the Opta computer.
Opta still has us finishing 3rd, ill go with that please

if we only get 6 points from the rest of our games we don't deserve CL football

I'm with Nuno, one game at a time. All this trying to predict our results & everyone else's results while being a bit of fun is pointless. If it was that easy we'd all be giving the bookies a bashing week in & week out.

There will be twists & turns, unexpected results etc right up to the last day of the season. In order for us not to qualify for CL now, 3 teams have to win 2 more games than we do or thereabouts

I get the concern about injuries but lets not lose sight of the fact we've been 3rd since December and before the Villa loss had won our previous 3 games - including against our nearest rivals Man City.

We've also had periods without key players such as MGW and CHO when we've still managed to pick up wins.

Our home games are key for me. If we can get 10/12 points from those - which isn't unrealistic - then we'll be safely top 4.

Agree, but even if we take 7 or 8 points from our home games, I do think we will take at least 4 away from home. Either way, lots of work to do and 1 at a time

Bang on!

Can we make the top5 with 5 or 6 points earned?

After a loss, this season, we’ve properly fallen apart for a good few games.

Coupled that to pressure being applied to our under strength side (don’t forget we didn’t not not need to sell players we were never going to sell, with the payoff being a lack of reinforcements cos we didn’t not not sell players we were never going to sell) and with Wood, Aina, Taiwo and Elanga fucked, and MGW having his head turned by City flirting with him…

Thinking about it, I reckon we’ll win 4 to 5 points.

61 good for champions league, chaps?
