The Ross Barkley Thread

Said a while back mate that he's a player I've watched for many years now thinking about how he might turn out - seeing him playing for Villa is going to be a bit special for me even though I have concerns about his head but there's absolutely no doubting what he's capable if he's up for it, a genuine world class talent who can do pretty much anything he sets his mind to.

Mentality may be the problems lets hope they have sussed his attitude, I'd expect JT to know him and have talked to Frank

He's decent at set pieces too, Got to feel a bit for Conor (Even if I do give him a bit of stick) But it's about improving us, Barkley's quality just in training day in day out should improve the lads.

Surely Mr Southgate will be spending more time at Villa with SEVEN English starters.
Yes if we do get another winger in the transfer window it would seem more likely now that it would be more attractive to an Englishman with this nexus. Has Mcginn got an English granny?

Well if we are going to allow ourselves the one loan, I don't think we could have asked any better.

Not only for his quality but what it gives us.... options if Grealish picks up a knock, the option to play both of them in midfield, the potential link up between one of them in the middle and one on the inside forward position.

As with how the front 3 are shaping up.... it's a very very fluid midfield.

Very excited to see if we get any others over the line now to add to this (getting greedy I know)

Yes, you're right Dan, people don't seem to grasp you don't get an extra point because you have the youngest team, Southgate is trying the same trick to get himself some breathing space. Football is always about winning now not in two years .
Barkley is the perfect age at 26, hopefully, he'll be an upgrade on Conor
Couldnt resist it could you, the last line.:grinning:

Christ I'm excited - I can't wait until Sunday - we were all over them at VP last season before they showed their genuine merit by doing us for two goals at the end of the game.

Given the quality we've added since I can only hope we go out all guns blazing like we did last time - a red card or two in the offing perhaps - I'd "love" that :)

RB is a confirmed "blue" so he'll proper be up for this :)

I see him playing the role SJM is currently doing and SJM taking over from Hourihane in a deeper role where he can battle for the ball and make his runs and take all the left-footed freekicks or share them with Targett

I assumed we'd see him as a left-sided SJM equivalent replacing Hourihane as it's all we ever needed over there - we'll look completely balanced IMO, Targett notwithstanding.

How excited are we all!!
I think if he has a good season here he won't want to go back. There's no room for him at chelsea however good he is. He's not their type of player.

I think so too, seems like the most logical step. Barkley is very good at creating chances, Watkins will be loving life.

Well I wasn't the first to say it and nobody in their right mind would drop Luiz or SJM at the moment, obviously, there will be a couple on here who won't see it that way .
Sorry mate couldnt resist it.
This is the quality, and experience I was looking for, keep this kid fit and he is a great addition to the squad.

It was interesting to see how many English players we fielded against Fulham.
Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett, Grealish, Watkins, with Ramsey coming on in place of Hourihane.
Not sure how many were on the bench.
Barkley could boost our English starters to seven.

I'm not keen on loan signings but if he can bring the quality he has to Aston Villa even for just one season then he has my full support. I did hear Purslow is a fan of putting in a loan contract a clause with an option to buy so if it all works out well then good?

The players must have heard he was coming which might explain why Conor Hourihane was looking so moody lately!?

Welcome ross.
Just one request. Work your god dam ass off on the pitch.
But i guess thats managements job to get him motivated and running 100 percent.
No doubt has quality.
Massive opportunity for him and us.
Massive sign of intent from avfc.
The signs are looking good vitals!!!!!

Edit... screw raschica. Never heard of him before rumour mill anyway. If he is not into us then villa just didnt choose him. You dont choose villa.... villa chooses you!
