As part of a documentary that will air on Channel 4 later this year, work has begun on a full-scale reproduction of the boat that was the basis for Noah's Biblical Ark.

It was written by scribes in Mesopotamia some 1,500 years before the Biblical story of Noah was set down in Genesis.

I love this type of discovery. Just a tiny tablet, with markings on both sides most of us would dismiss as scratches, and then someone interprets it. It contains detailed instructions on how to build the Ark, and it looks like they succeed in following these.

It raises so many questions. For one, this details multiple God's trying to wipe out life, with one deciding to save it. When did this translate into one God? Also, this throws out Biblical timeframes by at least 1,500 years.

Fascinating stuff. It's on tomorrow night.

Ah, Jesus, Heath! Stop messing around with all of that science nonsense. It's all just a load of hocus pocus. The Earth is around 6,000 years old. We know that because Jonah was here the day they made it.

Unless Disney produce it I'm not having any of it. There would have to be at least an animated chipmunk

Science? Art? Linguistics? Whatever, you are right. Jonah's life story trumps all this.

Just look at how small the actual tablet is. It amazes me how anyone can read such an ancient language. Such clever people.

It didn't happen the way many think, meaning the literalism crowd. The 1st 5 books of The Bible were written by Moses (he was the 1st 1 to have any form of education)

They were the stories handed down to him, from his ''ancestors'' So whatever literalism time lines are, they won't be correct.

So many see The Bible has literally how it happened. Will watch with interest Heath. Cheers for the details.

It will be useful for adding to the practical history of The Bible, as I understand it. I do have a set of timelines for The Bible which spread out far further than the usually 1's given by the legalistic crowd. I will try and find it today and put up the details.

When you think about it, the timeline for instance you have given will be about right. Given people supposedly lived until years of 900 and so, makes sense.

Before anyone says no they didn't. I totally agree. So much to be taken into consideration as to why those timelines, such as the fact there was no such thing as a calender back then

Timelines are taken on the calender as we know it today. Give it another few thousand years and the human race (if it is still here) will scoff at our timelines

Fantasy tales, Noah is a myth as we know it today, it wa smore probably a bloke who survived a flooding in that part of the region on his boat and got expanded into the word of god etc imo, also there is no proof of a world wide flood anyway to back these stories up

It was how the flood was perceived back then. I do agree though, it was something like a tsunami.

To these people who had no idea of the size of the world, it would feel like the whole world was flooded. It wasn't. It was just the area of the living world they knew

A few points.

Moses did not write the first 5 books of the Old Testament. As proven by this tablet, there were those that had an education long before him.

There is no evidence anywhere that anyone lived for 900 years. Not one skeleton has ever been found from the period showing this sort of age.

Our timelines will not be scoffed at, as they are based on a reasonably constant measurement i.e. the rotation of the Earth around the Sun. I can't see that changing anytime soon.

Clive has it right. Given the localised nature of the human population at the time, a local flood would have seemed like the whole World was affected. There are a few good geological theories of what did happening, such as the closure of the Straits of Gibraltar due to Sea level dropping. When water levels rose again, it flood the whole Mediterranean region.

That's what i said KK about there being a flooding in that part of the region Noah lived, IF he was real that is and this story is real i dunno, i respect anybody that wants to believe these stories as there choice and right, i just can't for the life of me see why i should take any substance from stories that have been written by people i know nothing about and of and listen to them, some stories have got meanings i get that like passing down knowledge and past life experiances to and for people, but this magical God speaking to people there is no proof this has ever happend apart from ''so and so said so''

I know they didn't live that long Heath: I didn't put that well. I meant that was what they gave as an age then, however they calculated it, or guessed it.

I have always said they didn't have a calender back then as we know it. Outside of Jerusalem into the deserts time was not a concept. Hence why I have always said the times of living to are crazy to us.

Yes there was others who were educated before Moses. I meant he was the first of that particular line

Do you know what, i hope this stuff about there is a God that speaks to people i really do, but when all you see is crap happening and struggles and people fighting to get by in life who am good it makes you think there can't be a god who allows evil peedo's to roam the earth and murderer's, this is why i can't believe in the God many do, but rather a God that is inside us more like intuition and wanting to do right from wrong and the good feeling you get seeing your kids happy playing etc, that to me is God the best things but not a physical grey bearded thing lol

Meh, don't worry yourself about it Clive. There isn't!!!!!!!

I've nearly died a couple of times, no white light, no voices apart from what the morphine did (lol) and certainly no God showing any love or help.

I can prove it.

There is no God. FACT

There, fact in capitals makes it so.
