Vital Champions League
Danny and Nicky Cowley addressed an expectant audience in The Travis Perkins Suite. Discussion revolved around the much anticipated contract extension news and details regarding the Elite Performance Centre aka training ground. Understandably there was very little detail about the Coventry and Accrington games during the 55 minute marathon.
Elite Performance Centre - Liam Scully provided the technical background confirming the site at Heath Lane near to RAF Scampton. Talbots will provide the pitch expertise having previously been involved with projects at Swansea, Leicester and Palace; also the Olympics. 12.3 acre site with building input coming from local companies Nord and Lindum. The youth team will be moving to a partnership at Riseholme College.
The Cowleys were delighted and excited in equal measure. A big benefit will be having all facilities at one location which will stop the disruption and less than ideal problems of having to travel between venues. This will provide quality training, confidence building for the players and put Imps on a level playing field with those clubs they are competing with. Success on a Saturday is earned by the work during the Monday to Friday and you wouldn't expect an office worker to not have a desk. City had missed out on signings last summer because of the (lack of) facilities; that will no longer be an issue.
Cowley Contract Extensions - Contracts will now run until 2022. The biggest factor was making sure the family was right as that is so important to them. To a huge cheer the duo announced that they were moving the family up in July. Once it was clear the children could go to a great school and their wives were happy it was an easy decision to make. The clincher had been the memorable reception from the fans after the Crewe debacle. The importance of loyalty was emphasized and the people of Lincoln had shown theirs and they wanted to reciprocate. They understood the value of taking small steps and the grass is not always greener on the other side. Some people want to run before they walk but having spent 8 years at Concord the Cowleys put great store by the benefits of continuity which make management easier. Whatever they go onto do Dc commented he could not see them ever having the same relationship with the people anywhere else. They had a clear vision of where they wanted to take the club and achieve success that would be remembered and everybody could be proud of. There is a lot of head room and leg room in this journey yet. The timing of the announcement was right to put speculation to bed. It will help the players concentrate and the supporters deserved to know.
Michael Bostwick Extension - 2 year contract extension; MB had been pre interviewed and a clip was played whereby he stated the factors included it was good for his family and it was exciting times at the club; he enjoyed working with the Cowleys. DC paid tribute to how important Bossie is to the group and how he leads by example. He spoke of clinching his initial signing in a rather unusual and accidental manner. When Bossie had come up for talks he had brought his wife and children. After talks of an hour it transpired that Ian and the kitchen staff had treated the kids to sausage chips and beans with Bossie declaring on the spot that it was the "right place for me". As an aside Dc noted that with the club being in a great position (on and off the pitch) he was well on with contract talks with other players and was hopeful in that department in addition to summer recruitment.
Miscallenaeous - Ollie Palmer had been strongly pressing his claim with on field and training ground performances. he had been very confident enquiring when he was going to get his chance. The Cowleys felt the front three would be a real handful for Coventry and that proved to be the case.
NC talked about how well Jamie McCombe was doing and his value both in training and during games. He benefitted from vast playing experience and good tactical nous.
It was confirmed that Danny Rowe had an operation on a slight rupture on his front ankle picked up v Port Vale. Having consulted with Ipswich it was decided that surgery was the best way forward and he is out for the season.
