The Premier League 2024-25 Thread

It's the AGM today for the Premier League.

Burnley, Luton and Blades hand back their shares and Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton officially become Premier league clubs.

The VAR question from Wolves will be voted on and rejected.

Villa's proposal to raise the loss limits by £30m is also up for vote today.

I can see clubs like Brentford voting against it because they imagine it will damage rivals. And I can see clubs like Liverpool or Spurs voting against it if they are eyeing some bargains from clubs like Forest.

But there may be a few closer to the line who would vote it through.

Crystal Palace have tabled their own amendment to raise PSR limits, but this is only for clubs in Europe.

The anchoring system will be waved through in shadow. The existing PSR system will remain in place for the next year

The anchoring system is not being voted on today because of objections from the PFA - something to do with it being unfair to potentially restrict a player’s income… 😳

Perhaps you are right; this article suggests it is getting waved through though?

It will be interesting to see what happens with this one. Clubs like Man City are already unhappy with it but it’s been reported for a while that the PFA will object to it and challenge it in Court if necessary.

obviously the regulator has been kicked into touch by the GE. Can't imagine it is high up for labour but feels like football is gearing up for civil war where players, clubs and the PL can't agree.

likely to get even more messy than at present.

the former Nottingham Forest boss has been out of work since being dismissed from his post at the City Ground last December, but reportedly intends on taking no time out of the game as he hopes to make a swift Premier League return. Now, according to The Sun, talks have officially taken place between his representatives and Leicester chiefs.

Meantime the EFL are discussing whether to change their financial rules in the light of PL failing to vote through a New Deal. As it stands a few Derby style admin processes could visit clubs. PL clubs need to realise that it is very good voting to benefit one’s self but one eye needs to be on the benefit of football as a whole. The PL have chucked out replays in FA cup and are pushing through a system that ensures late entry for Euro qualifiers in Carabao. They successfully ensure through PSR no championship promoted club can challenge dominance. Now they are ensuring no trickle down of any tv money.

They do need to look at the bigger picture. Maybe it does need a Man City shaped bomb to shake it up.

The new deal was a terrible deal

It does but it also needs Man City and Chelsea to be punished appropriately.

If this goes through would it be applied the FY ending this June, or move into place for next season before the new rule change kicks in?

If this FY then we don’t need to see a key player

Unfortunately it's a high likelihood next year.

Villa have only been really giving it large for these two seasons, they probably feel they'll be restricted next year. And I think too many top clubs will fancy taking players from clubs like us on the cheap before July. And the saints at Brentford will vote against it for this year wanting to see us and others have to sell

Well hopefully the FA know they’ve fucked up and retrospectively apply it to this FY

If not, does this mean all promoted clubs have allowable losses at $135m, or will their championship season still be accounted for, and in Ipswich’s case their L1 year?

Villa’s problem is the Grealish £100m drops out.

Again, highly unlikely to benefit promoted clubs.

The allowables for each year in the Premier League are £35m losses per season.

Essentially, what Villa are proposing is to raise that to £45m per season. I doubt it will be retrospective.

If it were retrospective it would only allow us another £20m for the 2 PL seasons. Assuming it starts 24/25 we'll get the full amount
