The Pre-season thread

Will going to Portugal to train help them to play for 90+ minutes, instead of the (at best) 45 we have seen for the past few years?

I'll never understand this warm weather bullshit. Just go to Bodymoor Heath, save the club a load of money and get on with it.

I reckon it is because Bruce can keep his eye on the 24/7 and the coaching staff can make sure they are recovering properly .

Good for team bonding as well I suppose.

1 week until the first pair of friendlies against Telford and Kiddy, and so I thought I'd be the first to start the pointless task of trying to predict the lineups. lol

It seems the Villa Youtube channel will be screening the games.

News of our first away match after the pre-season games......

"Cardiff City will allow Aston Villa to bring up to 5,000 supporters to South Wales when the two teams meet on August 12th.

The Bluebirds have issued some home supporters with a letter to inform them they will be seated elsewhere in the ground if Aston Villa take up the full allocation as expected.

Aston Villa brought more than 3,000 to the Cardiff City Stadium when they were defeated 1-0 in January last season.

And Cardiff will allow an increased allocation this season in a bid to maximise the atmosphere for their first home league fixture of the campaign."

So then Shrewsbury next up on Saturday and another chance for some of the lads to build up a bit of fitness.

I'm going to assume anyone who played the full 90 yesterday will be on the bench for this one, so thats Bree, Samba, Amavi, Green, Hourihane, Bjarnasson, Mccormack and Hogan.

I'm not sure where De Laet, Taylor, Elphick, Hepburn-Murphy and Bacuna were.. we'll have to assume injured (or leaving) so Saturday will probably come too soon for them.

I think Terry will start this one, to step up his preparations.

Also think Sam Johnstone will be in by Saturday and will start.

So how's this for a predicted starting XI?
