'Drive-through' rubbish bins aim to keep motorways clean

Drivers are being encouraged to throw rubbish out of their windows into bright orange bins in a bid to keep motorways cleaner. The funnel-shaped bins would be introduced at 25 service areas in the North West, said Highways England. They are designed so drivers do not need to leave their vehicles.

Have people forgotten 'wind'.

This will cause 'mass hysteria' (© Steve Brice 2017) as people look to empty their cars of their rubbish.

The North West you say? I wonder if people will drive to the relevant service stations to deposit their rubbish, even if their destination is Cornwall or Kent? I know I would if it meant, as SJH mentioned, I didn't have to keep my rubbish together and dispose of it when I stopped at a regular services, or God forbid, I had to wait until I got home :10:

How does it sort out what is recyclable?

You probably have to hit the correct bin when you throw it out of the window. :17:

I'm more interested in knowing, if this is just a trial (something many in the north west of England have experienced) when will they start the full, side of the motorway, hit it at 70mph variety? :39:

So i wonder how those new 'drive-through' bins are working out?

Er, not very well apparently...

"Drive-through" bins at a motorway service station have been damaged within two days of being installed.

The containers were put in place at the M6 Lymm Services, Cheshire, on Tuesday so drivers can throw rubbish out of their windows into them. Site manager Jason Vance said three of the four bins were damaged by vehicles trying to get out because the bins' locations "narrowed" the exit route.
