Not sure what's going on at the club, heard JT contract was not renewed hence his "resignation " , ROK departure is bizarre, the antics of the argies is borderLine anarchy, Bailey does his own presser from a Jamaican shed, back to the dire 2021 form
But we have got that long throw expert 🤣

I can be harsh at times, but I haven’t had this much of a feel good factor since the mid-90’s. The mid noughties were successful with those 6th places finishes, but always felt like that was our ceiling.

With the way the game is going for the “big” clubs around Europe, whereas we are in a financially healthy situation in the best league in the world, it just seems the stars are aligning for us to buy better players and catch up where we have fallen with the likes of Leicester and West Ham overtaking us.

I enjoy your posts Sil, as I take them a with a huge pinch of salt as I think you enjoy a little wind up which for entertainment value is sometimes amusing. But if you are seriously disheartened about a bit if natural churn given our trajectory in recent years, then I’d worry when things do eventually start going downhill (hopefully in a long, long time) how you will feel?

Sir Chewalot didn’t succeed in the game with one club over three decades through sticking with what he knew especially coaching staff and style of play, which is where a favourite of yours Steve Bruce has a very low ceiling.

Plenty to improve on, Deano has his faults but I do genuinely think him and the team are getting that experience as we aren’t for example throwing leading positions away, which even low IQ fans like myself could see is very naive in the leagues. Constructive criticism is not a bad thing on the forum, as I’ve got older I’ve tried to go from a ranting teenager and 20-something year old to being more constructively critical, as that will help everyone push on.

The set piece expert has been worth a goal already, so pro rata that over a small number of games and that’s 9+. If you look at basketball (albeit a different game), you can see football is still light years behind in set piece strategy. I think it was sirden who said it, but incremental gain theory. If we score a few more this season, and concede a few less, we’ll be 5-6 points better off.

We look deadly from set pieces, our throw ins are very clever to open up a midfield in space, our free kicks are tactical aiming it to one player at the back who knocks it back across.

No disrespect to those who don’t rate the appointment of a set piece coach - and one day it might be absorbed into a less specialised role when players become accustomed to these things - but you have to see it in the flesh to understand it, and I doubt those who can’t see the benefit are going to games or if they are, aren’t able to see such things.

Plus I won’t hear a bad word said about my mate Angus.

I think we should bring in Pullis as a long-throw coach, Imagine if we had him as a coach and we'd scored the goal of the season from a long throw, he'd have been crucified on here.

I genuinely don't think we got our summer business done correctly or enough of it net spend -ÂŁ10m is a bit worrying. We didn't strengthen the areas we really needed to do and I guess Smiths right hand man leaving on the season eve just doesn't sit well with me despite the narrative being fed to us. I'll be happy enough just to stay up and consolidate this season, hopefully there is a plan to strengthen in January and the owners will be fully backing this.

January is a terrible time to 'strengthen'. I seriously doubt anything significant will be done in that window.

I think what happened in the window had several aspects. First there was the obvious need to improve areas in which we were lacking. This morphed into the need to replace Grealish once his future was sorted. This being done under a certain amount of urgency, I think we looked at our situation, decided we weren’t really sure whether we had accomplished our aims then decided to draw breath and see how the season progressed. It provided an opportunity to see if the young players could step up with the safety net of money in the bank for sensible spending in the January window. If we make progress through our new players, the emergence of young talent and the return of the likes of Sanson then we’ll stick with what we have until next summer.

And yup Ironside, we honestly don't think if DS changed his mind and decided to drop a target thinking that between JPB, Ramsey's and Chuk we could get by?

I think the club knows/thinks the same but have shown with Sanson that they're willing to make a grab if the right deal comes up unexpectedly.

Yes. And finally we are looking a threat from set pieces.
Tis a bit of a throw-back TBF. I do hope he has more in his locker than that :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I'm sure he does, as he's highly rated. I'd just like us to speed up the throw ins, free kicks etc. as a starting point.
