I can be harsh at times, but I haven’t had this much of a feel good factor since the mid-90’s. The mid noughties were successful with those 6th places finishes, but always felt like that was our ceiling.
With the way the game is going for the “big” clubs around Europe, whereas we are in a financially healthy situation in the best league in the world, it just seems the stars are aligning for us to buy better players and catch up where we have fallen with the likes of Leicester and West Ham overtaking us.
I enjoy your posts Sil, as I take them a with a huge pinch of salt as I think you enjoy a little wind up which for entertainment value is sometimes amusing. But if you are seriously disheartened about a bit if natural churn given our trajectory in recent years, then I’d worry when things do eventually start going downhill (hopefully in a long, long time) how you will feel?
Sir Chewalot didn’t succeed in the game with one club over three decades through sticking with what he knew especially coaching staff and style of play, which is where a favourite of yours Steve Bruce has a very low ceiling.
Plenty to improve on, Deano has his faults but I do genuinely think him and the team are getting that experience as we aren’t for example throwing leading positions away, which even low IQ fans like myself could see is very naive in the leagues. Constructive criticism is not a bad thing on the forum, as I’ve got older I’ve tried to go from a ranting teenager and 20-something year old to being more constructively critical, as that will help everyone push on.
