The Ollie Watkins Thread

I honestly don't think he is talking about there version. I think he's just thick.

Remember this is the guy who can't spell toilet.

The ten in a row team are all legends in my eyes. That team got dismantled as soon as we got promoted. Chessie, Elmo, Uncle Albert, Wheelo, they all got moved on. But they all left with their heads held high.

The Europa League winning team is different. They couldn't wait to get their big moves. It's a shame. Emi, Youri and Ollie, especially. It's always going to cast a bit of a shadow on the memory.
 
So if I read the article correctly Watkins comes back mid August having been looking into a move for the previous 6 weeks. We wanted to keep him to bridge between the transition but he gave leaving the full bollocks, failed to show up for training and declared himself unable to play against Brighton.

All this after us giving him a career and silverware with his destination not being a top club but a Saudi one. Legacy tarnished.

Problem being that it worked for him. If he buckled down like a good boy he wouldn't have got his move. It has tarnished his reputation but I still see why he thought he had to do it. He probably would have preferred if the club had simply been more open to selling him. But I'm a Villa fan and that only extends to players who want to be here.
 
Watkins is a weird character. A good team player that somehow seemed disconnected from the rest.

The Saudi league is perfect for him. He can keep banging 'em in, completely unmarked, and finally feel good about himself.

John Carew, a player who didn't show up for himself in his career, will be remembered more fondly.

Second best PL striker behind the freak that is Erling Haaland, yes. Good enough, no. PL top scorer, yes. Club legend, no.

I remember an interview Mark Albrighton gave recalling a time he went with the first to a preseason tournament abroad somewhere. He said one morning when he was waiting in the lobby John Carew emerged with a model on each arm, presumably after a night smashing both of them. Watkins can’t do that.
