Phew. That's over! Think it's a good move. There are pluses and minuses over it being a loan. Whatever, he fitted into the defence well after things settled down, and I reckon he and us will have a good season.

IF he remains out of contract and no new deal has been penned with United, even being a loan at least we have 12 months to talk him into tying down.

Now get Sarkic out on loan so he can build on what looked like a steady appearance in the last friendly.

And I'd love to know what's going on with Jed Steer?

I think in time he will become a Villa star just need the supporters to back him......

Hope not, but if he has a recall clause it isn't down to the policy set out by Xia in a tweet.

The original story came from TeamTalk though, not a reputable source at all. Just shocking some of the mainstream papers have repeated the made up rumour as fact.

The September nominations for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month Award are in.

Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has rubbished the speculation linking on loan Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone with a January switch to West Bromwich Albion.

Is it just me that thinks there are big question marks around Johnstone? He seems a very good "shot-stopper" but for a 6' 3" keeper not to control his 6 yard box at least I have concerns. Maybe it is a generational thing but surely the man who can use his hands should be coming to claim the ball as often as he can, by that I mean catching it and not punching it away to the opposition.....one in the first half against Bristol was a two handed punch which appeared just as easy to catch! Having seen keepers over the years like Seaman, Clemence, Jennings, Shilton and not forgetting our own Nigel Spink all making their defenders lives easier by being positive when the ball is in the air, this seems to be a fading trend.

Interesting 63. Not totally sure personally, is this more down to his age and still learning? Obviously - as you'll know - most keepers don't fully peak until far later than most outfield players.

You're probably right, keepers at 23 are still learning their trade and I am sure he will be a very good keeper. Hopefully JT is having some effect as well helping him to learn when to come off his line and when to stay put. A strong positive keeper can add so much to a defence giving defenders confidence and posing lots of questions for attackers to come up with ways to beat them.

He looks a great keeper in the making to me . Would be a great permanent signing for us as his value should only increase over the next few years

Interview with Big Sam (Johnstone, obviously) about his desire to stay at Villa.

“It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster,” he says. “It’s been fun getting games in and getting different experiences but I’m 25 now and ready to settle. Hopefully Villa get promoted and we’ll take things from there.”

Promotion may be the deal breaker, but he speaks warmly enough of his time with us so far after a rocky start.

Pretty clear cut. If we get promoted he'll sign. If we don't then he'll look at other options. But if the options aren't good enough wouldn't rule out him still signing; he's unlikely to get an offer from a top club, at least not one where he'll be number one.
