The Official Salford City Match Thread (Sponsored by 360 Degrees "for all your full circle needs")

Bit concerned that MB had to tell the players before the game there were to be no fist pumps if we win and that they HAD to put a performance in or take/expect the reaction. Are players really spacecadets and unaware of reading the room?

I really like that from Bonner. We really didn't need any players cupping their hands to their ears if they scored or over exuberant celebrations at beating a mid table team at home 1-0. We needed the players to show a bit of humility, accept that they have been under performing and that yesterday's effort was the minimum we should expect.

Go on a little run, keep working that hard and then bring the fist pumps back. Players and fans needed a little reset - that was yesterday. Now build on it.

I really like Bonner and hope that he succeeds. By being brave and dropping the primadonnas he might just do that. It will be interesting to see if anyone is made available for transfer in January. There are a couple that just don't fit the mould of what we need, in my opinion.

First post so thanks for having me . Long time lurker .

Somebody asked the question where was Wylie yesterday ? He didn’t make the squad along with Wakeling, Lapslie et al . The injured players Dieng , Hawkins, Morris & Armani Little were in attendance . Hawkins says he’s back fulll training next week when asked Little said he’s back ‘very soon’ . If anybody sits near the dug out will see Little kicks every ball . A born leader .

It was great to snap the streak yesterday regardless of previous it was imperative an improved performance was needed and we move onto a fresher MK next week .

Another facet from yesterday. Glenn Morris has to be our undisputed no .1 for the foreseeable .

Might be a good thing but glad to see no players doing fist pumps after as per MB instruction. That included the kit man !!!!

I hope to post a lot more frequently. Up the Gills .

Welcome. Nice positive comments, a change from the rest of us cynical moaners!

From the RE view, the only thing preventing Clarke getting to the ball was the Salford defender's contact as he fell. Clarke had got past him, so if no penalty and no booking for diving the ref must have thought it an accident.
Strangely he thought it must also be an accident when Joe became pole-axed by simply turning into an onrushing Salford player. Neither incident was affected by the bad weather.
A poor, weak referee bottled 2 important decisions in my view. He was, of course, a lot more decisive on things that didn't matter, like moving free kicks and throw ins back a couple of feet.
There's nothing in the laws which says an "accident" isn't a foul. If you trip someone, it's a foul. In the Clarke incident, they guy slipped, but clearly tripped Jayden in the process. Clear penalty. Gbode's face was smashed by their players arm or shoulder. Again, that's a foul regardless of whether it's an accident or not. If it was an accident, maybe you'd let the guy off without a caution, if it was reckless and he didn't go out of his way to ensure that he didn't make contact, it's at least a booking; if it's deliberate, which it may well have been, it's a clear red card. Either way, they took one of our players out of the game and got away scot free for it.

The referee was about as clueless as Peter Lloyd's commentary.

I bow to your superior knowledge but on this occasion that’s shite

Penalty all day long unless the referee was taking the conditions into account and as it was wet and windy the player slipping and taking Clarke out was OK

NOT
I don't get this argument. There's nothing in the laws of the game that says it has to be deliberate for it to be a foul. The fact that he fell over/slipped and it was windy and rainy is irrelevant. The question is did he make contact with Clarke (yes) and the ball first (no)?

But apparently both benches called for the game to be stopped and the medics to come on. The stretcher took Joe to the dressing room instead of straight to an ambulance so hopefully just a precaution.
That was typical Peter Lloyd BS. Robinson and his coaches were screaming and waving at the ref "for" stopping not "to" stop the game. Sums up Robinson that, although to be fair, if we had him as boss with our players and budget, I reckon we'd be in the top three in this woeful division.

Sorry that’s my sarcasm

The KOL report said three players were left out of the squad of 18 altogether in a shake up.

The only players that were not injured, as far as I know, and didn't feature were E Williams, Wyllie and Lapslie, who actually only came on in the 70th minute v Harrogate.

I don't think either E Williams and Wyllie would have expected to be in the team at this stage anyway. I assume they were actually making way now Rowe, Dack and Andrews are nearing fitness.

Meant to add , felt a bit sorry for Eunan Williams yesterday , presented with player of the month for November and can’t even make the squad now. Can’t see him making it in the foreseeable future apart from injuries / suspensions .

Good start Cookie.

Nolan headed the ball twice (two times) his first aerial action in a Gills shirt. Andrews played a little over 64 minutes, new territory for him in a gills shirt.

Nolan is one hell if a frustrating player. He has bundles of ability but it’s just not clicking at all . He’ll always either try to beat a player or cross both great things if they work but that along with a lack of tracking back you just went to throttle him ! He has shown in patches what he can do , let’s hope MB and co can unlock his potential .

Anthony Hayes is a bit more animated in the dug out these days , Peter Gill who is well thought of sits in the box relaying messages to DI so I can only imagine how frustrating he must be watching Nolan from up there !!!
