The Official Rochdale Match Thread

Something i was listening to the GFC fan said "a fit Dack probably wont make the first 11 this season".

IF true, why sign him for another season?
Do you have a living room full of Crystal balls then?

Go on. Lend 'em to the Gills so they can anticipate injuries before they occur and know who we may be offered late on deadline day, like King.

One of things managers say is that player availability changes on a daily or even an hourly basis making things nigh on impossible to predict near the cut off time.

In another area, if Goodwin's injury turns out to be bad we will have only one fit permanent senior striker as Sillah is on loan.

And we are still only talking about one performance and result.

I would say we play 4 midfielders a game but we have 13.

I know we have injuries but seems a bit top-heavy when we only have 3 strikers - one of them possibly injured now.

What a win and what a day
It's been far too long. Absolutely love wins like this where after you're soaking up every piece of Gills content possible, watching the highlights over and over again, and basking in the misery of the oppo forum
Up the fucking mighty Gills

Well, that was a result and performance that’s worth popping back for 👍

Having steered away from a lot of gills socials so far this season, I couldn’t resist especially for reactions to Brophy’s 2 great goals and the overall game of Eli King.

It would be very welcome if performances like this, and goals like this become a bit more prevalent. Oh, and the injuries become less so.

UTG.

Well after rushing back from a Stag Do in Brighton yesterday morning to get to the East Malling Beer and Cider Festival (which rather sadly might be the last ever one), I was only able to check the scores when signal allowed. Sounds like it was a great performance against a poor Rochdale side. Certainly made some of the beer taste a bit sweeter as the scores kept coming in. Up you f'ing Gills!

Hopefully the Gills will bring you back for more

After the natural euphoria, my mind does go back to the 3-0 win at Harrogate last season when there was a lot of optimism that we had cracked it.

And remember the clocks have still not gone back.....

I shall now return to happy clapper mode and can the ounce of negativity

Final thought for this evening:

I hope the 388 gills following today contained a fair number that had witnessed some of the away tonkings at the back end of last season.
I was just saying something similar in a Sunday morning breakfast chat. I must admit, recent weeks and months have been challenging. I count myself among those who are usually pretty positive about GFC, but will concede that the last few weeks, especially, have severely tested my patience.

As you alluded elsewhere, yesterday`s performance does not automatically signal a magical step change, but it did, at least, deliver some long overdue hubris that we`ll bounce off for quite some time.

Biggest plus for me was Eli King. If he stays fit, he could well be one of our best ever and most influential signings - he`s class and it very evident. His presence completely changed our structure and provided a much dynamo to press forward. The last few weeks have seen us constantly lobbing the ball forward due to a complete lack of midfield cohesion and connectivity. Not only does Eli turn that about, his presence also allows Brophy to get in the game more.

On the evidence of yesterday`s game and, in particular, the outstanding performances of new boys King, Sillah and Daley, I`ll be re-visiting your Rate The Window thread to make a humble amendment of my "4" rating.

King, Sillah and Daley must be shoo-ins for our starting eleven.

Last thought, Gareth Ainsworth`s brother was in the stands with us GFC fans yesterday and was joining in with the "singing" - good for him.

Pleased in many different ways from yesterday, there are plenty of bits and pieces that could be picked upon throughout to improve on for sterner opposition (let's have it right, Rochdale looked every inch a relegation candidate), but I don't want to be too negative in light of a really good day for all concerned with GFC.

Played a bit of football, scored some good goals and I thought GA made good tactical decisions on the day.

Well done all!

Because that random Gillingham fan doesn't pick the team. It's just an opinion.

No different to me saying he'll start every game and play 90 minutes.
I agree that it's all about opinion.

It was strange to hear somebody say what i had already thought.

I think it was a podcast.

Thought he was excellent at marshalling the defence at chesterfield too as well as continually antagonising their strikers with his close marking at set pieces!
Thing about Omar is that he`s an experienced pro and excellent at rallying the troops. His character and presence is a big plus for GFC and his supportive nature is, i`ve heard, a true benefit to the dressing room - an honest and much needed asset among a largely youthful squad.
