George HW Bush, who as the 41st president shepherded the US through a turbulent period in global relations that included the breakup of the Soviet Union and the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, has died. He was 94.

Pete Shelley, lead singer of punk rock band Buzzcocks, has died at 63 of a suspected heart attack.

The band are best known for their hit, Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't Have). Their management told the BBC that Shelley died on Thursday in Estonia where he was living.

Pete Shelley, a major musical hero in my youth. One of the punk rock originals that helped shape music for the next thirty years. Three fantastic albums and a string of top quality singles in 78 - 79.

RIP to a great British song writer. Time is indeed up.

It gets me when this happens to people who are around the age of me and my family.
