Patch up job I'd say we're in a very precarious position and even if we wanted to throw money at it its not like many clubs will sell prized possessions.

Chasing a short term permanent deal makes perfect sense. I'd discounted on the loan aspect and I thought his deal to Italy was basically over the line. We'd do far worse than bring him in in my humble if we could get a deal done. But he'll definitely have suitors as you say.
