The Official Chesterfield Match Thread Sponsored by (11pm on a Matchday "for all your Transfer Deadline Day needs")

The Wycombe thing is a pointless comparison, as the two clubs aren't comparable.

It’s a pointless comparison if it doesn’t suit the unequivocal claim that GA is a shit manager.

The sooner you can accept that we are a League Two club in stature and on merit and that we’re not merely slumming it by being in League Two the sooner you’ll see things for what they are.

I don’t think anyone is ‘grateful’ for a point at Chesterfield but it is a good result and we were indeed underdogs (19/4 to win last night).

A point away to one of the pre-season favourites who have been up there for a while and have a fairly settled side is something to try to build on. That’s what Ainsworth is trying to do with his comments.

And like it or not, we will be underdogs for the majority of away games this season.

And in the overall League Two promotion picture we are indeed underdogs again. We have a young team assembled largely over the course of one summer and it will take a while for us to be firing on full cylinders.

Patience is going to be required. We’re four games in.

But let’s not overdo the underdog thing - to write off Ainsworth’s success at Wycombe as being solely down to playing the underdog card is poor - but it does suit the unequivocal claim that GA is a shit manager.

At Wycombe, he took a small club and turned them into a decent League One side by using the age-old 'underdogs' tag. And fine, that works when you're actually an underdog.
That is not really true. Wycombe do not have our league history but had Martin O'Neill as their manager in the third tier back in the nineties when we were in the fourth tier before we were drawn away to them in the F.A Cup under Pulis and Sky actually said WE had a cup upset on our minds:

That was way before GA's time.

Then how would you go about choosing GA’s successor if prior performance in managerial roles is irrelevant?
You don't tend to see much concern for thinking that far ahead. Best you'll usually get is an 'anyone would be better' which obviously no club that goes on to get relegated with a new manager has ever said.

hales goal was a great strikers goal. Total aggression and single mindedness to force the chance and execution. Top strikers do not wait until you have the perfect angle or clear shot or indeed take the easy route and go down.
All hail hale.
True in that he did well to judge the bounce, cut the ball out and hold off defenders, plus if you don't shoot you don't score but, let's be honest, if we conceded that we would say that our keeper had it covered until the deflection.

The keeper's body language said it all really.

I'm not choosing GAs successor.

Previous history is not relevant to success here with a completely different set up and set of players. For instance...

Pulis: two 17th place finishes with Bournemouth the sum total of his previous managerial offerings. Immediate promotion with us.

Allen: No promotions, a relegation avoidance specialist. Immediate promotion with us.

Bonner: Won promotion from League Two with Cambridge. Binned after 28 games by us.

Yawn.

If a member of my staff is performing below the required standard at work and will be leaving as a result, I wouldn't presume to guess at their replacement before seeing what is available and who is interested in the role. Plucking names out of thin air is a complete and utter waste of time and any name proffered will be shot down by the apologists for whatever reasons suit them.

Personally, I think we fucked up binning Clemence, his record is inarguably better than GAs with a lesser budget and a single transfer window to work with. He could definitely do a better job because he already did.

Just because someone can see something is shit does not make them responsible for fixing it.

But you're confident the Galinsons (who made that mistake and have yet to appoint a successful manager on multiple attempts) will replace him with someone better (like Clemence...) and not someone worse? When by your own estimation all they've really done is hire successively worse managers.

Using that logic, with a drastically different squad to last season, we can disregard our poor form last season under Ainsworth and regard this season as a fresh start?

My level of confidence is the Galinson's potential replacement for GA is neither here nor there. I think GA is a shit manager. The stats and performances over the last 11 months bear this out. I would like to see him gone.

It would take a spectacularly awful replacement to deliver even less than GA has across his tenure. If they appoint someone like that, so be it.

It's already starting to look brown round the edges. Maybe the fridge has packed in?

Would the stats and performances for the aforementioned Pulis and Allen not also bear out that they were shit managers?

Why is GA defined solely by the past 11 months?

As I said quite clearly, Nibbles, previous stats are irrelevant to the current role. So no, it wouldn't bear out they were shit managers.

In my opinion, GA is a shit manager because his tenure with us has been shit.

So only tenures with GFC can be used to judge a manager’s ability?
