The Official Birkir Bjarnason thread

He should have started far more games for us than he did last season and you could clearly see by his body language he thought so as well and who can blame him with some of the strolling around by some midfielders chosen in front of him.

I like Birkir and do think he should play regularly. Maybe Jedi can replace Terry at CB and Whelan/Birkir can share the duties as DCM.

Something like that. Think we need another decent CB as well but with Jedi, Whelan and Birkir we'd have a lot of options and injury cover.

Throw him in the deep end, give him ten games to show us what he can do in the middle alongside hourihane and possibly Grealish. With his energy and technical ability he’s potentially a very good player, someone just needs to screw a football brain into him a bit to control all that energy.

I’ve grown to like him for his attitude. Never a winger but I think he could do a good job in our midfield against championship opposition.

Said himself he's not a winger. stick him somewhere in the middle and he'd be fine.

He's one of those players who's energy would infect the whole side. If he plays as a DM he looks to get the ball forwards. Playing further forwards he's the sort of player who would work well with Jack.

I agree he looks crap on the wing for us, but he seems to play there all the time for Iceland and looks a completely different player.

Judging from the few times I've seen Iceland they mainly seem to be an old fashioned long ball team so when Barney has the ball for them out wide he's not normally expected to take a man on but get the ball up to whatever big forward they have on or get it inside to Sigurdasson. Though we do play a fair amount of long balls up (normally to someone not great in the air) when our wingers get the ball we're wanting them to take people on and get crosses in which isn't quite his forte. Though there's a few wolves defenders who might disagree with me there. Personally I'd have him as 1st choice defensive midfielder this season playing behind Hourihane and Grealish.

With Aston Villa getting their business in the summer transfer window done early to give new arrivals the best possible chance of settling in quickly ahead of our Premier League return when we take to the pitch this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur, it was always going to be a slow deadline day for a change - but we have had another departure and it comes in the shape of Icelandic international beard Birkir Bjarnason.

It happens. Good player but it never quite clicked for him here. A victim of the buy them then bench them school of management. A naturally attacking midfielder who was usually used as a defensive midfielder, where maybe he didn't have the physical presence to succeed.

In site of that he did a job for us when called upon. Think he'll do fine. All the best, Birkir.

I liked him, at least he wasn't content to sit on the bench and do feck all like some we've had.good luck Burk, I think he may finish up at Newcastle

I liked him too, but he isn't good enough for the prem. For that reason I'd love him to go to Newcastle!

I wish him all the best and thank him for his contribution. He didn't get much game time over the years but always put in a full shift on the pitch. I'm sure he'll find another club very soon.

Seems when Bruce dropped him when he hit some good form had dented his confidence but pre-season I thought he looked like he was back to that good form and could of done a job as a squad player.

The only contribution here was his signing on fee, wages and settlement. Shocking
