He'll bring some spirit to our ineffectual midfield I think so another nice addition ...

I know Amavi isn't easily spealt , but this bloke is going to take mis-spelling off the scale . Good luck everyone

For that, I'm naming him Barney.

Welcome Barney

I think it says a lot, about our manager in particular, when an international player is ready to leave a club, where he is guaranteed to pick up silverware and play in the Champions League every season, to come and play for us in the English second tier.

January signing Birkir Bjarnason has recovered from his injury and having returned to full fitness, he's in line for match minutes with Iceland this month.

That is good news, I'm not convinced he was ever fully fit when he joined us, so I look forward to seeing what he can bring to the party.

Yes. Ironically he was having his best game for us when he got injured. I think there is far far more to come from him.

I'd forgotten about him.

No idea if he is any good or not from what I saw.

Cliche alert!!

Be good to get a pre-season under his belt and then see.

Manager Steve Bruce has backed Birkir Bjarnason to really make an impact at Aston Villa next season now he's fully recovered from his injury.

Glad he wants to stay but I can still see him leaving. Probably not on huge wages as we signed him from the Swiss league but if he impresses at the world cup we might be able to get a good fee for him. Having said that I'd definitely make him our starting defensive midfielder next season. What we were doing signing whelan when we had this guy sitting about doing nothing for 6 months baffles me.

Think Barney being good as a defensive midfielder rather surprised Bruce. What shouldn't have surprised him was Barney being better playing centrally rather than midfield.

Hope we keep him, but think we also need at least one of Jedi and Whelan as backup and for certain types of matches.

Whelan has done nothing wrong for us but unfortunately he was just the wrong type of signing; slow, old, defensive.

I think Bruce thought he could convert Jedinak into a centre back and then Whelan would replace him as the experienced man in midfield, but we just ended up with 2 slow and old defensive midfielders. I don’t think Bjarnasson has proven himself yet but at least he is more dynamic than Whelan and Jedinak

I like Birkir and do think he should play regularly. Maybe Jedi can replace Terry at CB and Whelan/Birkir can share the duties as DCM.
