This should be interesting:-

A simple question that I ask without bias, what does this statement, assuming it's true, mean to you?

Muhammad is the most popular baby name in Britain if you include different spellings variations.

You wait hours and hours for a Muhammed and then one finally comes along there's a whole load of them. Typical!

Or is that buses?

Muhammed on a bus.

We have Christ on a bike afterall.

On a serious note though is that based on forename specifically? At school knew a fair few Mo's but it was a mix between forenames and then middle names that they just went by.

Same as my Irish side of family, most actually go by middle name by choice rather than strict forename.

As a political point if you want to read into it, at least we've over young parents naming kids jhsdfsskjksdhfj and then suggesting when you say their name it says Steve.

For a sensible point I'd imagine it's just younger Asian couples pissed off with Islamaphobia and a little way of claiming back their religion from the fundamental mentals by choosing the name more formally I guess.

The true answer would probably be that Mohamed is used a lot amongst the small Muslim population, and that the rest of us have a million names to choose from.

Or is that spoiling the fun trying to identify the closet racists amongst us?

I found the statement, backed up by thinly veiled racist comments, on Facebook and was amazed at all the islamophobic bile that 95% of the, not inconsiderable number of, posters spouted. Forget the phobic behaviour for a moment, these people struggle to comprehend that it's a physical impossibility for 5% of the population to birth more babies than the other 95%. I was shocked at that level of ignorance.

I know Bob, but the number of ignorant posters was mind boggling and far outweighed any vaguely sensible posts by at least 9:1, probably more. Frankly I was shocked.

I must admit, it would have amused me greatly had it been Pawel or Donatus or another popular eastern European name.

They're just more vocal, Ian, not more numerous. I've probably got friends who's first reaction would be negative. Education is the key.

We aren't allowed to kill the stupid, so the next best solution us to persevere and provide the facts. Ideally, a firing squad would help the species, but apparently we're above that!!!

Education is, as you say, the key. The biggest challenge is that most adults seem to think that they have learned all that they need to know and won't be taught no matter how it's done, they have an intentional resistance as a result of pride, be that the pride of machismo, the pride of the "working man", the intellectual pride of the a averagely educated or even the pride of ignorance (think chavs here) The problem being caused by, in my opinion, that that education in most of the world is about learning things and not learning to think.

The other problem is alot of people are basically stupid so trying to educate them in these type of matters is a waste of time. Doesn't matter what you say there logic can't work it out

Personally, i'd rather call my children something unusual so they are more unique. Chose Dylan (ranked in the 40s) before it was popular and didn't think lots of girls were called Daisy (20s - thought it was less popular to be honest) but hedged my bets and gave her a middle name of Boadicea just in case.

The name Mohammed is boring like 9 of the Christian 12 apostle names that are so popular in Britain and Europe. But that's just personal opinion.

Have a couple of extras in reserve incase i pop a few more out. Thinking of another one in 2020.

Liking Caratacus for a boy and Æthelfleda or Gwenllian for a girl.

Watch this space.

Means there are a lot of Muhammad's to me!

Mohamad, Muhammad and Mahamad all different, however Moohammed, Mahmad, Mehmed, Mahamed, Mohamad, Mohamed, Mohammad, Mohammed, Muhamad, Muhamed, Muhamet, Muhammed, Muhammet, Mahammud, Mehmet, Mohd, Muh,"Mohamed","Mahamid

All this means they are different and as such Dave is the most popular name in the world. :129:
