The London Giants

I notice as I look around at various sites and news reports, that reference to Spurs is often in the vein of "The London Giants" and similar. We've not been termed as that very much for a good while now but I notice a change occurring in the press and their attitude, even when we drop off and drop out of a competition like last week, we still come bouncing back in the press as well as off the pitch.

So my question is, do we all feel that things ARE well on the up for us as a club? HAS Public and press perception of us really begun to accept that we are a bigger force than we used to be perceived as? Our constant pushing the envelope for the top, IS IT showing a firmer hold on the league higher echelon? I mean this is a big change to my way of thinking of us being perceived by the media etc. People seem to be talking us up more and even dyed in the wool opponents realise that we aren't the club we used to be and give us a little more respect, at least the honest ones do.

I feel we ARE doing the right things.

It's worth remembering we are just 2-3 drawing/losing games off of being called ' the perennial underachievers ' by the mainstream press..

Whilst the accumulative effect of our competing for the Top 4 in the last 5/6 years is a clear indication of our direction of travel, two years in a row would be a significant and historic achievement, and that type of statement tends to turn agents heads and players previously thought out of our reach as well.

The direction of travel is still upwards, despite (as every club does) the occasional slip.

It's also worth understanding (especially the critics and detractors) that our progress in recent years, and our commitment to the academy (it still wows me whenever I'm there) has dragged us from the poor relations to now being one the countries first choice clubs for parents/agents and kids to think about joining us first - that in itself is an incredible achievement.

Our scouting system at the kids level is now second to none in this country, and we have potentially some future top class PL stars in our midst.

And that's all because of our direction of travel....

This is well worth a read:

We are on the up but it's a slow climb. The new training ground, new stadium, improved PL performance. Youth product. It's a cumulative effect.

Forgot the manager learning too.

Some good comments guys! We are definitely in a steady growth state. Our training facilities are second to none, the envy of the leagues. Our New Stadium is already showing signs of being revolutionary, The league position is slowly... creeping upwards.

I don't see anything wrong with slow growth. Something hard earned is not easily given up. We have a young squad who are learning lessons weekly. Hopefully, they won't disregard their mistakes or forget their losses as a result of those mistakes. Alli will be reminded, I'm sure that he git sent off at the wrong time in the Europa.

Personally, I think we're worth the title 'London Giants' and the new image completed on the opening of the new Stadium will consolidate that in the public eye.

WE MUST though, keep pushing the envelope of winning games and upping the ability on the pitch. I think too that we have the manager that can do that. OK we can't legislate for the injuries we get but refs need to get tougher will all teams with regard to bad tackles, including with us. We all know that we can play fast and furious and be devastating to the opposition on occasions and that puts great pressure on them which often brings pushing, shirt pulling, bad tackles etc. If the refs hold up decisions and punish offenders, we gain as long as we keep our noses clean. We NEED to keep climbing in the league alongside our image upgrade. If the 2 coincide that will be our best outcome. If we can win a cup or two on the way, all the better.

But for me, LONDON GIANTS sound OK.
