The Leon Bailey Thread

Don't panic. Don't PANIC! As Cpl. Jones would have said.

It's only a fairly mild injury. He needs to build up to the demands of the PL. In the meantime, these injuries can happen, with any player in that position. Like it did to Sanson. If you're coming on in the middle of the second half there's always a risk you aren't properly warmed up, or have cooled down.

Not sure how the doctor or medical team can stop players like LB getting injured on a regular basis, that is surely down to Bailey himself.

Footballing injuries continue to be researched in great depth by all clubs. Its bad business policy to have expensive resources that you cant use.

I remember reading a few years back that due to a particularly bad season with injuries, Southampton had bought in a hamstring injury specialist to determine the best time during training to do their Nordic exercises. Simply put, either at the start of training or at the end when the legs are tired?

They reported that most hamstring injuries occur between 30 and 45 minutes and 75-90 minutes when the muscles are stressed and trying to maintain the same range of movements as at the start of each half. Maybe that is why subs are made at 68 minutes by Deano?

For individuals with known problems, I guess they will have to devise a separate training routine. Lets hope they get on top of it soon as we don't want him to turn into a Jack Wiltshire.

BTW, Nodics were changed to the end of training, when the hamstrings were already stressed.

Yup . There are a million reason why muscle injuries occur. I remember Ryan Giggs solved his hamstring problems by changing his car seat or something.

To just blame the fitness department is way to simplistic.

Didnt Alan Wright pull his hamstring because he couldnt reach the accelerator on his Ferrari properly?

Think Leon's injury record is being exaggerated a little. I've just had a quick look at his past problems and the only lengthy period he's ever missed was early last season. He spent 3 weeks out with a muscle injury, seemingly returned too soon and re-injured himself meaning another 2 weeks on the treatment table.
Prior to that he has barely had a problem.

I suppose there has to be a start to becoming hamstring prone, Micheal Owen never had a problem at one time

Giggs has put down his hamstring improvement variously to (a) avoiding cars with stiff clutch pedals (b) yoga (c) diet.

I swapped to an automatic 3 years ago because of clutch pedals, not so much changing gear as having to floor the pedal every time one started the car.
