The January Transfer Thread 2022

you could say it shows how far we've come when some of us are disappointed in a January window in which we got Coutinho and Digne. :utv:

True, we do need a DM, I'd have thought that would have been a priority but hey-ho, you have to imagine they will get that done in the summer.

The only thing that I find really weird is, not so much Targett going out on loan but the fact that we've made a bid for Hickey which feels a bit half arsed... if it's unlikely to be enough to be accepted why bother at all. Maybe we will be back for him come the summer.

As regards a DM we have Nakamba to come back and Brighton were wanting silly money. The guy only has 18 months left on his deal. The Brighton players are super fit, I think they would not necessarily progress at another team

The least that will happen re: Matt Target is, he will stay fit and if he does well his confidence will be sky high. Then he comes back and will push Digne for the left back place, which will only be to our advantage.

As to pointing out that we were ready to swap a £30 million + player in Luiz for a £19 million player in Bentancur. For one thing they play their best football in completely different positions, so guess what, they wouldn't be competing against each other. In fact they could play as a two in DM and box-to-box.

Just like most others I'm particularly disappointed that a dedicated DM hasn't been added to the ranks.

Another question that was asked was, has Chambers played left back before. The answer is no, he's played centre back, right back and a few games at DM. Tyrone Mings has played left back a lot, has as Kortney Hause. Not forgetting Ash Young having played both full back spots for Varchester United.

"After Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest, in which Chambers was superb at both right-back and left-back,"

I think Gerrard knows exactly what he needs here to get us to where we want to be, other managers have spent transfer money with not much thought about about how they will fit in, which is a waste. I don't expect us to break into the top 6 this season but i do expect us to keep improving, which we are.

Targett has always given his best and had a great season last season after clearly putting some serious work in. He's been a good servant and you can see how much it means to him.

If he's said he wants first team football and the club respects him maybe they've just done the right thing by a good man.

Call me soppy if you like.
