The Holiday Thread

Went to Madrid for 3 days over the weekend with an old friend from Uni days. Cheap £50 return flights from Luton and a Hotel for 90 Euros a night. Stayed in the Sol area, which is a great location near bars, Tapas restaurants and some beautiful Plazas. Great city to wonder around and admire the stunning buildings or sit in the Plazas and watch the world (and women) go by.

On the Sunday we manged to get tickets at the Bernabau stadium for Real Madrid V Seville (65 Euros). Wow what a place! Full house with 80000 people there to watch some incredible and entertaining football. R Madrid won 4-1 and it could easily have been 7-3.

God knows why we don't want to be part of Europe with its great cultures, people and cities.
Porto to look forward to next week!

Some interesting features with this holiday. Our oldest son and his family will be staying here.

I love Manchester airport. :

Manchester, Ontario, I presume?
Unfortunately I need to fly into the other Manchester tomorrow - the one in Lancashire.
Friendly people but, gosh, what an ordeal it has become over the years. It didn't use to be but that trek from the station, going down in one lift, coming back up in another, leaving one terminal building to brave the elements to get to another (I normally fly into T3 with Ruinair), the "security experience" (that of course applies to all airports) and then trying to nick a seat in the departures "lounge", all contribute to what the great sociologist Emile Durkheim has called a huge sense of anomie.

No BBJ: I love Manchester airport U.K though only when we are flying out of the country LOL

I'm still not convinced. Last night, I arrived around 7.15pm for the 10pm flight to Dublin which was of course far too early but I wanted to get something to eat and otherwise give myself plenty of time. As it happens, it was not till 11.30pm that the plane took off.
It was pretty dreary and quite scruffy. There was a nice sunset though.

Absolutely agree - just one caveat with me, would never go to Bernabeu. My frequent destination is Camp Nou. Porto should be fun, Lisboa is a wonderful destination too.

BA33 ?

Been to Singapore on way to Melbourne ... God it was hot and humid, April time. Enjoy.

My social secretary has added a three day trip to Frankfurt the first weekend of September.

1 week and we will be on our way to Manchester airport for the night over before our flight: feeling pretty emotional; well both of us are

Today I saw a bodybutter, a tropical rainstorm, a temple and had a nice noodle lunch plus steak tea (in kind of a shed.. A well known place)

This reminds me of the old "Happy Gathering" Cantonese restaurant in 1970s Birmingham.

Just back from a week in Bosnia which was really interesting. Then I'll be at the Le Mans 24 hours in mid-June. Finally I'll be touring the continent with my son in my old jalopy for three weeks from the end of July. We hope to see some of the Villa on the pre-season tour, and maybe go to Dortmund (again) or Bayern or Juventus or wherever the dates work out.

Where did you go in Bosnia? I think its brilliant. Sarajevo and Mostar well off the usual tourist radar. Quirky and cultural :)

Arrived early in Porto this morning and by god its cool. Not massively touristy, rustic and real. Found some decent local joints where wine was 50p a glass! Beer 85p. Beautiful city, and ive got a feeling it will be soon a" got to go" place in europe. Get there before it loses its imense charm. Btw. My flights £39 return and great room for £20 a night. Abrigodos.
