The Holiday Thread

Went to Marseille last weekend . Very gritty and heavy north African influence in areas. My kind of place :) loved it, fab food and no bother there. I heard it was a bit dodgy but no problem. Warm sun and the ladies playing beach volleyball were a bonus ;) highly recommend.
Off to Poland in a couple of weeks to the Christmas markets in poznan and wroclaw with the wife.
Epic trip over Xmas to Senegal and The Gambia. That's a wrap for this year.
Next year it's Philippines for Easter, Lithuania in May and then trekking in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in August.
South America beckons for Xmas 2025.

What's everybody's holiday plans for 2025?
After a great year exploring new places last year.
This year it's
Philipines over Easter
Lithuania in May
Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in August
Just booked flights to Colombia for December/January.
Hoping to go back to Hong Kong in October.
It's 4 new countries this year having already been to Lithuania.

Always need something to escape and look forward to, as other than travel my life is just work, work, work.

Sounds great Chico. Do you have some kind of target to visit every country in the world before you die? You can't be far off already. 😂

I'm off to Budapest with the wife in February for a long weekend. Bought it her as a birthday treat.

Then in April we're taking the young one to Orlando for 3 weeks. Can't wait. I'm a sucker for a theme park. I've been a few times before and loved it everytime so looking forward to seeing how much Buddy likes it (hopefully he will).

Nothing planned for the summer. Maybe Turkey for a week if finances allow.

Id like to reach 100 😁
Budapest is great, I'd go back. Visit the ruin bars for a great night.
Thermal baths also good. Enjoy!

Just looking for places to eat in Budapest. Think I might avoid this one... 😬

Rooster testicles cooked into a paprika-spiked stew, kakashere pörkölt, is another. This should come as no surprise, really. In a country where meat—be it beef, pork, turkey, or goose—is consumed with gusto, the rooster's family jewels are just another juicy delicacy served in a heady paprika broth.

I would

Found a cheap flight to Lanzorote £45 return next month. Hiring a scooter to tour around the Island for 6 days, staying in Arrecife, Punta Mujeres, El Golfo and Yaiza. Should be a bit more relaxing than my usual.

Dunno if you have been or are about to go but some recommendations, which aren't cheap, but imho not overly expensive and nice if you and your wife are going.

1. balagan - https://balagan.hu/
2. Twentysix - https://twentysixbudapest.com/
3. Mazel Tov - https://mazeltov.hu/
4. Lui Bakery - https://luibudapest.com/
5. Hungarkum Bistro - https://hungarikumbisztro.hu/

Thanks mate i'll check those out.

Already got a meal booked at our hotel the night we get there (Leo Rooftop).

2nd night were doing a river cruise which finishes at 6pm so was hoping to eat somewhere near where we get off the boat. I'll check to see if any of those are nearby.

Nothing planned on 3rd night yet so will see if we can fit one in then too. Which of those is your personal favourite?

We went to Leo Rooftop, the views were fantastic though it was expensive as f-! (And we only had some croquettes and some wine!).

Balagan was probably my favourite, it's small plates but really really good, they had this lamb kebab there which was the muttsnuts! So if you can get a table there I'd recommend (though obviously personal preference).

Twenty Six was good, though we did breakfast there, the whole place looks amazing so if you have time I'd check it out.

I guess Leo Rooftop is expensive for Hungary but still looks cheaper than UK prices so I'm OK with that.

Really want to eat somewhere traditionally Hungarian at some point.

Just booked a cheeky week in Cyprus in a couple of weeks.
Last couple of years managed to get away similar time of year wanting to fly and flop, recharge with a bit of warmth. Unashamedly going to Cape Verde and not leaving the all inclusive hotel apart from a beach walk . You guarantee mid 20's there this time of year.
Tempting as it was to go for a hat trick and not Canary warmth (been there a few times), gone for Cyprus which will be a bit of both. Bits to sight see of course but option to do naff all !. Only bed and breakfast so not tied to hotel eating wise.

Only bit of trepidation was the temps. Hovers around 20 and chilly at night still but that's better for the sight seeing anyway

I went to Cyprus a few years ago, we hired a car and drove around, it was great. We even drove into Northern Cyprus and stayed a few nights. I actually found the Northern side more interesting. You even get a text message saying 'Welcome to Turkey' when you cross the 'border'. One of my good mates is Greek Cypriot and was very unhappy at what I did.

Fly home tomorrow from Canada - urgh at the flight as we are in front of Canada by 7 hours (6 atm cos there clock went forward an hour last weekend, before ours at the end of the moment)

Time travel is possible and I will be in it this week. Fly tomorrow at 21-50 pm Canadian time. Arrive into Heathrow at 13-00 pm U K time on Tuesday. Then the journey home

Today seems like a nice day to go on holiday! I think I'll go to Orlando and see Mickey Mouse.

Land back in London on Friday 25th April. If I manage to get semi final tickets think I'll just book a hotel for the night (or 2 nights depending on if we're Saturday or Sunday) and send Nat shopping while me and Buddy have a day at Wembley!

So theoretically might not be back home till late on Sunday 27th! What an end to the holiday that would be! Fingers crossed I get tickets.

Also booked lunch at a sports bar in Universal Studios to watch the 2nd leg of the PSG game.

Isn't it crazy what we do for Villa? Nats thrilled by all this as you can imagine. 😂

Just bumped into a spurs fan in Universal Studios and asked him if they were mathematically safe from relegation yet. His face..... 😂😂

Also seen several groups of Villa fans wandering round with colours on ready for the match. Me and Buddy both have our black 150 shirts on.

Can't wait.
