The Greedy Six

And the last word from Bobby Robson courtesy of the BBC

By the late Sir Bobby Robson...
“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”

That brings me to tears, end of story.

Anyone who tries to fight against THAT for their own mercenary ends have no chance.

I salute the fan power and true club and country love exhibited across the footballing world in the last 48 hours.

Sense may have prevailed for our English clubs, but it's our football heritage that has shone brightly through those amassing dark clouds.

No wonder we love the game.

Makes you wonder how many of the sponsors of the 6 threatended to pull out their support and leave them even deeper bereft of financial support

So we now have 8 of the 12 pulled out of the ESL

As the ESL announcement was carried out without notice to football worldwide and even denied late into the piece apparently, and, current team owners took up management places ain the ESL and resigned from the traditional Euro bodies, then haven't they shown that by being underhanded, the term " fit and proper person" , which is one of the bed-rock check requisites to owning a football club set down by the governing bodies when take-overs are ratified, has been compromised if not destroyed by wanting to sell football out in such a greedy fashion. Surely their accreditation to hold their positions are now untenable and it could be removed and their approval to hold such a position in football be removed and banned for life, to protect football.

As it is being reported in various comments, this is a watershed moment in football and we must make sure that the fans control football for ever more, not corporate greed, and that greed cannot be allowed to surface again.

Well, this has raised it nasty head again.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus say they will continue with plans for a European Super League, claiming to have successfully argued against any punishment by Uefa.
A court decision on Friday in Madrid means European football's governing body have an "obligation" to terminate disciplinary proceedings against them.
Uefa paused action in June when the case was passed to the European Court of Justice.
"We are pleased that going forward we will no longer be subject to Uefa's ongoing threats.
They intend to do so by working with governing bodies, leagues, fans, players, managers and clubs.
Clubs participating in European competitions have the right to govern their own competitions.
Uefa has declined to respond to the statement from the three clubs.
The trio that remain say European football's governing body must now "unwind the actions taken against all" sides involved in the ESL.
"The court backs the request made by the promoters of the European Super League, dismisses Uefa's appeal, and confirms its warning to Uefa that failure to comply with its ruling shall result in fines and potential criminal liability," the clubs said.
"The case will be assessed by the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, which shall review Uefa's monopolistic position over European football."
Bye Bye the top 6 - now we'll be alright!!!

So, the court was the Mercantile (meaning commmercial) Court in Madrid - funny that, not easily considered to be beyond the realms of funny business.
The case will now be assessed by the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
So I guess thats when UEFA will fight it.
But we're out of the EU and not subject to the ECoJ - so they can stick it and hands off Britain
