The great big short Summer Transfer and "What the hell do we do now" Thread

For what its worth I agree with the consensus that we need a younger Sow..pace out wide a commanding DC and a 15 goal a season guy to complement Grabban for what its worth I reckon Walker would get 15 if played regular.

Walker is a very different player to Grabban, but he scores goals and that's why I was disappointed that in both Barnsley & Swansea games he was unused.

Marcus McGuane is a DCM, signed too late to be of any benefit this season, but certainly could be pushing for a place next.

I'd sign Colback, if available and also Bostock.....

I think Sow was only signed on a 2 year deal, so perhaps he'll be 'less injured' in the season ahead as he tries to get that 1 year extension.

Some good youngsters coming through, Will Swann, Julian Larsson (Swedish u21 signed in Jan) & you'd hope that Brennan Johnson & Alex Mighten continue their progression.

No offense but Silva has 23 goals in his whole career...thats not enough from any supposed attacking midfielder...you need to be looking at 8 goals plus from each of your midfielders..imo

He was supposedly more of a defensive midfielder, but has been used in a more advanced position by Forest.

For all the talk of a more sensible, and sedate summer transfer window, Kieffer Moore is apparently worth £2.1m. I like him as a target man, but a 27 year-old with 51 Football League goals - 18 in 87 Championship appearances - seems over-priced at that.

That’s why I can understand our interest in Taylor, who at 30 has peaked in the last couple of years. I don’t really care whether he wanted to play for Charlton or not - he had a contract up to a certain date, and didn’t want to jeopardise his last and only big move by playing on.

It might not be the most selfless thing anybody has ever done, but clubs and players are equally disloyal to one another. Having him and Grabban would give us two good Championship strikers.

We should go for Marcus Maddison...free agent only 26 free kick specialist. Need to get our shit together and target promising youngsters at the lower levels. Our scouting is a shit show tbh.

I agree about targeting promising youngsters, which they appear to be doing with McGuane and the two young lads from Northern Ireland who have just signed; but Maddison!

I would not want rubbish like that anywhere near the Club; he is a 24/7 trouble maker

Don’t know much about him but from what I have read he is a decent player albeit at league one level which suggests other clubs are equally loathe to acquire him.

Is he worth a year with an option or is it a blanket no? Genuinely curious...

Hes had 134 minutes of action..how can you state categorically he wouldnt get 15 goals when he averaged 1 in 2 at league 2 and league 1 level...I reckon 15 would be doable given the service.

Burke would be just what we need to give us that pace and power wide, he's not had a good time since leaving maybe worth a loan to buy option see if returning here sorts him out. Wonder what they'd want for him though been sold for decent money but they have gone up and maybe willing to take a loss to move him on?

He missed two chances when starting the game against Charlton.
With limited appearances, chances off the bench and competing against much better opponents, Walker would need to raise his level - both in his all-round game, and finishing generally - significantly.

He appeared once, as a sub, since restart. If we were struggling for goals, with a fatigued and possibly injured Grabban starting all the games, doesn't that tell you something about where the management see his level?

To score 15 goals would, IMO, require him to start every game...which ain't gonna happen.

IMO, we need much better to challenge for the play-offs next season. Lyle Taylor would be my choice.

Generally, football fans do seem to over-estimate their clubs youth players.

Apart from Worrall and Cash, can anyone really state that any academy player seen this season will challenge the starting 11 next season, or even provide decent cover?

Yates - dogshit, but he's a fairly mobile battering ram with 50 pence feet
Mighten - runs around a lot, but creates little
Johnson - see above, but also lightweight and anonymous
Walker - doesnt have enough to his game, not a natural goalscorer
Gabriel/El-Neyah/Fornah - one appearance each all season...not good enough for the squads.

Would anybody take Ollie Burke back? WBA clearly don’t want, has 1 year left there.

I am not sure Lamouchi would have the patience for him.

I know a little of his time at Celtic; they quickly abandoned any idea of playing him wide because he would not entertain the defensive aspects of playing there so they played him down the middle.

Rogers embraced the challenge of getting something out of him as a player; he put together packs for him for each game and had the coaching staff constantly on the touch lines shouting instructions to him.

It worked for a while but when Rogers left the wheels came off.

Apparently when things do not go his way his fall back position is belligerence; he detaches himself from the group and becomes surly.

The Southampton manager, Ralf Hassenhutl, who coached Burke at Red Bull, came out with my favourite quote when describing Burke; "his hard drive is empty"

Anyone know offhand how many goals we score? Roughly?

I’m guessing 50-60 a season
So we need 20-30 from our strikers

and 15-20 from the midfield

defenders we take any goals

we can’t take people who haven’t scored in 2 seasons etc

Problem is, non-scoring players is what we can afford
