The great big short Summer Transfer and "What the hell do we do now" Thread

I have seen little from Carvalho to suggest either the money spent was well spent or could be in the future. If we can get £8m to £10m For him, great. We need a big CF who can hold the ball up and score 15+ a season. Experienced in championship and not cost silly money. Top of my list would be Wickham. Not playing for Palace, on loan and contract has one year 2021. 10 years experience in championship and premiership.

Big CD other priority. Media talking about Dickie, but he is just over 6 ft. Need a 6 ft 4 and above.

Still need a creative midfield general.

Why do we need a big lump? It's mobility and an ability to knit the midfield and attack together we struggle with. SL wants a relatively high tempo press, not to turn us into Cardiff.

We desperately need some leadership in the team.

You can have all of the talent in the World but it will never be enough if you do not have the mental fortitude to close games out and resist being bullied.

We need an uncompromising Centre Back who will regiment those around him at the back.

We need a central midfield player who can play 10 yards further up the pitch then Watson does and who can keep recycling possession and stamp out any danger, and is not afraid to get into players faces and get a response when we are under the cosh.

If it means selling Cash or Worrall or Lolley to get those players, fucking do it.

But I suppose every Club in the Country is after those kind of players, and we cannot force them to come

Given our recruitment over the winter if we sell them it's far more likely we will spend around a third of what we generate on has beens and useless overseas players.

There are two interesting points to come from the article; one is the appraisal of out transfer activity and secondly there was Lamouchi's appraisal of the mental strength of the squad.

The Taylor's did not sugar coat their feelings on our recruitment, particularly the failure of the January window.

They mentioned two players in particular; Grosicki and Freeman, both of whom turned down the chance to play for us.

Whatever the reasons were for both of them to decline our advances you can be sure that Lamouchi had little to do with them.

The last paragraph of the article quotes Lamouchi talking about the mental strength of the group “My nature is that I am an optimist. I know the atmosphere that has been around but what am I to do? I can understand what has happened here over many, many years but I was not here before… We need to change the mentality. But to change the mentality in a short space of time is not easy.”

And therein lies the problem; easy to identify, not quite so easy to fix.

The recruitment strategy was a disaster. Cover for Grabban was loanee Mur. Hopeless. Goalkeeper, Muric. Hopeless. Midfield Samedo and Bostock. Not in squad most of time. No saplings uprooted. Nothing in window apart from Diakhaby and the signing of De Costa. Enough said.

Sabri’s problem was how to get a fit squad for most of the time. The game v Stoke had Grabban (who has played every minute since break and only rested for two games all season. Both losses.) Playing with strapping, Ameobi playing with strapping, Lolley still not 100%. Sow not 100% and strapping. The cover was not up to standard. The strength of our bench and oppositions were telling. Even Barnsley bench was stronger than ours.

For two years now punters on vital have been crying out for a striker or two. Creative midfield is zero. Sabri had little to work with when he took over and less as the season continued. He has worked miracles getting a silk purse out of Samba Sow’s ear. It is not SL fault. It was poor, or no acquisitions in August and January.

Wayne has revealed on his Facebook page that Lamouchi is staying and Modesto and Anigo are leaving.

He is hoping to have some news on the Three Bears later this afternoon

Hear his name all the time but still none the wiser to who he is and reliability or his references on here are tongue in cheek - is he reliable usually?

Absolutely.

Colback is the obvious choice in midfield but I am not 100% convinced he will come. He is certainly good enough at this level.

There are going to be plenty of players available on a free and some of them will be more than decent, we just have to find them.

We need to be ruthless and proactive in the market. Get players in and get them in quick. Just make sure they are the right ones.

Yes, the over all transfer activity has been unsuccessful but how much of that is down to constantly changing managers?

The Summer window was pretty mixed fare, but again you have to take into consideration that the scouting team were geared up to find MONs targets until the 11th hour.

In hindsight, what do you think the chances were of Lamouchi analysing what he had around him and what he needed for the season ahead, in so little time?

I would say he had little chance; if he did not know how the fuck can the recruitment team target players?

People can bang on about the January window all they like but it is now redundant; the only thing you can guarantee about the window is that you overpay - you overpay on transfer fees and on wages.

No Club with any sense deals in that window; that decision may well now be taken out of a lot of Clubs hands with the introduction of a wage cap.

That will not stop supporters up and down the Country demanding signings though.

Everyone, including Lewis Grabban, knows that we need an additional striker, but you tend to pay a premium for the good ones which makes them hard to come by.

You mention the elusive creative midfield player; I assume you mean the number 10 who quarterbacks games, dictating play and sprays passes around; the type of player which the vast majority of Clubs no longer play with.

There has been an assortment of excuses for the last two windows; I just hope the change of manager excuse is not used in this window.

That's the problem Will; you spend too much time sucking up to Cornflakes and Apollyon and the rest of the vile, vile clique, and not enough with the people who know their shit like Wayne, the Major and Franz, who, incidentally, finished 3rd in the 1:40 at Uttoxeter yesterday

Ah here we have young Mao, another doubting Thomas who has nothing better to do than spread his vitriol all over the forum.

All I will say is that you should EXPECT significant transfer activity down at the old girl this summer if my usual contact is correct. He'd better be or there will be no more brie for him at our next corporate outing LoL

This one has got legs, the red tops are all over it and the deals MAY or MAY NOT happen. Hmmm I wonder ???? :hmmm::hmmm:

Anyway I have better things to do than stay ON here with you all day. The sun is shining down here in Glos and I will continue lookign east

No no chap, you’ve minced your words. It’s cornflakes sucking OFF Apollyon. It’s the sort of tops of bullshit which has stopped cracking posters like @Postman_Pat posting on here.

Owd lookign. Stupid unliterate c***y

Nixon saying that Taylor and Colback are being actively pursued.

I personally don't want Lyle Taylor anywhere near this club. His attitude in refusing to help his club post lockdown is, in my view, an absolute disgrace and I would not want to give a wage to someone who would do what he did. Especially someone with his very modest goal record and very abundant injury record last season.

Rudy Gestede - free agent, aged 31... always scores against us.

We should go for Marcus Maddison...free agent only 26 free kick specialist. Need to get our shit together and target promising youngsters at the lower levels. Our scouting is a shit show tbh.

For what its worth I agree with the consensus that we need a younger Sow..pace out wide a commanding DC and a 15 goal a season guy to complement Grabban for what its worth I reckon Walker would get 15 if played regular.

Tiago Silva is supposedly a free kick specialist.

We genuinely had the opportunity to make the signing of Lee Tomlin permanent, but opted against it... He does have injury problems though.

Wages I think.

When Cardiff got promoted I think all their players got an automatic pay rise that put him out of our reach. I think the desire was there before
