The government are trying their best in difficult circumstances

Much in the same vein as I don't understand your point Moonay....you start the thread at 09.38 with a 'positive' yet follow it by 2 negatives....why not post it in the 'moan about'.....either that or life is very dull n boring at Moonay Towers today n u just felt compelled to post be it + /- 😳

No Jock ....... it was a positive post ....... with a hope that the current shambles wouldn't detract from the system's introduction ....... and a second hope that we're making progress, and we're nearer the end than the beginning.

I don't see how you read any negatives into my post.......... unless you're trying to.

Feel free to post your own positives though Jock.
;)

I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to last like the tennis rallies you have with your sparring partners, Messrs MiW n Hampton...with the tooing & froing of 'I said you said'...plus I'd be shit at the quotes / formatting, as well as losing track of what was / wasn't said..🤔

Surely, if you're just simply posting a positive thing achieved by the government, then there'd be no need for tennis rallies ............ except when folk accuse you of being negative, even when you weren't. ;)

I meant it. Test, track, trace, isolate is a good move .......................and I won't finish with a negative .......but a hope that no negatives need to be posted about it in the future.
;)

There's nothing really positive at the moment from our government as it seems like it is constantly fire fighting, be that by their own goals or media witchunts... I mean the track n trace announced by Hancock is being ridiculed by KB on Sky News saying that it's only being announced to try & take the attention of the DC saga...it's like some spoof stories / skits doing the rounds that say if the Government announced that a cure or vaccine had been found by UK scientists then they'd be asking "why's it taken so long / why, why n more negative why's "
Plus I've no doubt any positives I did give u you find a reason to have a game of ping pong tennis 😉😉😉

Shame on you ...... being negative, on the positive thread. ;)

That's basically what Kay Burley said this morning, and Hancock got aerated. The app was meant to be out mid May ......then 1st June ....... now it's rumoured to be a way from being ready. Hence the allegation.

The problem is, the government don't offer the truth themselves, so people have to go looking for it.

As if ! ;)

So the Tracers will be using their own laptops ?

Nah ......I'm sure it'll be fine, you know, data protection wise and everything.

They can have any thing they like from my lap top phone or any they like If it helps. Find a cure. I want to hold my grandkids unlike a lot I have not. .. But there are plenty who are having there Grandkids should they all be reported One person. Who went for a drive right or wrong does not infect loads

Good news (I suppose) that the government are sufficiently confident to further relax the lockdown guidance, though Vallance's comment "that is not a low number" when talking about new 8,000 new infections seemed quite portentous.

Stay safe everyone.

See what I mean....you've got me at your ping ping game n now playing tennis with ur replies altho I can't do the quotes followed by the replies as tech savvy as u ...

The KB thing....again another news reporter just trying to find the next scoop / shit stir / find fault...

Apologises for the negativity on a so called positivity thread 😳😳

N again as I said, any positive news from government is lambasted by the media / press but they call it holding them to account....

Government don't offer the truth....maybe sometimes they do but like the media n others like yourself don't want to believe ANY of it.

No more ping pong rallies from me as I'm terrible at it n hit the net more than any going over it....🤹‍♂️

Apologises for the negativity...we lift restrictions down here to 6 but sadly it's countered by Jimmy Kranky up in my homeland who raises Boris's 6 with an 8.....unbelievable Jeff, Unbelievable 😂😂

There's a lot to read there OLFE. I haven't read the SAGE minutes (because there a lot of them!) but I have read the other two reports.

On the Channel 4 one in particular, it's interesting that the government's response is rarely a rebuttal of the allegation. Instead, it merely offers largely irrelevant nuance or feeble justification of their actions. Most notably, it insists (more than once - and in the Sunday Times response also) that they took "the right steps at the right time". With our record as it is, this is clearly, at best, an extremely dubious claim.

Best of all though I thought was the response to the allegation of "herd immunity", and the PM's (alleged?) conversation with the Italian PM. The response doesn't deny the conversation, nor does it deny what thePM is alleged to have said. It merely refers to "policy" and "goal". Draw you own conclusions:

Claim - On March 13 there was a phone conversation between the Prime Minister and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte which discussed the UK strategy. Italy was then in lockdown, with Spain and France about to follow. Italy’s health minister says after this call he was told by Prime Minister Conte that ‘He told me that he wants herd immunity’.

  • The Government has been very clear that herd immunity has never been our policy or goal.
There can be little argument that lockdown took place too late. Yes, of course this may be with the benefit of hindsight, but an awful lot of evidence was already available, and decisions were made that seemed to contradict other available evidence and advice. For example:

Claim - Cheltenham Festival and a Liverpool Champion’s League fixture with Atletico Madrid were allowed to go ahead. Scientists had advised the government that shutting sporting events would have little effect on their own, but note those same scientists had by then submitted evidence that only lockdown measures would avoid a huge death toll.

  • It is our absolute priority to protect people's health and our advice on coronavirus is the result of direct, continuous consultation with medical experts. These events took place within clear government guidance at the time – the SPI-M statement of the 11 March states clearly that the direct impact of stopping large public events on the spread of the epidemic is low.

"Right steps at the right time. "
"World beating track and trace system."
"Proud of the government record."

It's not always easy to believe what the government tells us.

What was it that was interesting in the SAGE minutes OLFE?

Reading the early SAGE meetings ...
No screening for inbound travellers ... they dawdled and missed an opportunity to stop the spread.
This country appears to be at the arse end of the virus with our infections
coming from mainly Spain, Italy and Germany ...

Then there are these early SAGE meeting notes in February ... the list is endless

SAGE agreed that HMG should continue to plan using current influenza pandemic assumptions, which can be modified as data becomes more certain.

Measures within the UK – such as shutting down public transport and suspending public gatherings – would probably be relatively ineffective in limited spread of WN-CoV

Assuming the reproduction number and doubling time are similar in the UK to the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan, an epidemic in the UK could be expected to peak around 2 to 3 months following the establishment of widespread transmission, but there is low confidence around this. It is predicted to have a lower peak but broader duration than a pan flu outbreak.

Summary1.
SAGE concluded that neither travel restrictions within the UK nor prevention of mass gatherings wouldbe effective in limiting transmission.

March 5th ....
SAGE agreed there is no evidence to suggest that banning very large gatherings would reduce transmission. Preventing all social interaction in public spaces, including restaurants and bars, would have an effect, but would be very difficult to implement.

Good news to start the week. Given that deaths by definition have a "lag factor", I imagine that we'll be switching the key measurement (from a future relaxation point of view) to infections and/or hospital admissions.

Let's hope that the impact from the combination of beaches and marches has less impact in the next fortnight or so than we all fear.

Hopefully so Ant. There were worries about a spike after the first relaxation which didn't happen and again after the second relaxation. Hopefully all the Pillock's flocking to Beeches and standing shoulder to shoulder on the cities streets will prove to be a false worry too.

Good to see that the government have listened to people who run schools who know the logistics and have postponed the idea of getting kids back too early.

It appears there is always an alternative opinion Jeff.

"In the letter, signed by more than 100 specialists in psychology, mental health and neuroscience, and published in The Sunday Times, they write: "As experts working across disciplines, we are united as we urge you to reconsider your decision and to release children and young people from lockdown.

"Allow them to play together and continue their education by returning to preschool, school, college and university, and enjoy extra-curricular activities including sport and music as normally, and as soon, as possible."

Must admit that I am concerned that the Tracking App has been developed by mate of Cummings, with links to Vote Leave. Thought there was an Apple/Google/Alphabet app already.
Good it is being tested on the IoW.
Now (puts on tin hat) - could the Tories do the same testing thing with the IoW for Brexit 😁
Let’s be honest he’d hardly commission a rabid remoaner to produce one - they’d sabotage it out of political spite. Much people to go with people you can trust and rely on.

By the time this app is developed, we'll possibly be back in the bloody EU.

'Appen a "remoaner" found their way onto Cummings' mate's brother's staff.
