The Forest players trophy thread

Vital 1st Team Regular
I was up in Glasgow and Edinburgh at the weekend, and stayed in Leith. It had me thinking about "Sunshine on Leith" (which we romantically had as our first dance at the our wedding) and how brilliant it must have been to have been a Hiberninan fan winning their first Scottish Cup in 100 years in 2016 and singing that:
.
It would be romantic and moving but for Jason Cummings being in it!

But what is there is the emotion of winning a proper trophy. All of our debates about league placings etc mean that there is little discussion about the impact of winning a trophy. As far as I can see it, the current Forest players that have actually won a trophy (other than the play- off final) are Matt Turner (!), and AI tells me that Taiwo Awoniyi has a Champions League medal (but I am not sure about that).
This season, Forest should win something, and should target the Europa Conference League. That keeps people at the club.

Winning the League Cup has totally re energised Newcastle United and the city and this is now regarded as a minor trophy by some. I'd be more than happy to do the same next season.

Said very similar on another thread, people seem to have lost sight of what football is about in the quest to make financial gains. Football is about trying to win things. Sir Brian took every competition the club were in seriously because he wanted to win things. EM spends millions of his in a quest to win things, & ultimately as well as wanting to earn plenty, players want to win things. Some fans seem to have forgotten that

Very much agree with your sentiments Chandos.

When people were posing the question last season 'Would you rather Forest qualify for the Champions League or win the FA Cup?', although we ended up with neither, my answer was 100% win the FA Cup.

I understood the arguments about the money and status the CL would bring and seeing teams like Barca at the City Ground would have been class, but seeing your team win a trophy really is what it's all about imo.

Palace fans will be talking about their final win for the rest of their lives, whereas the novelty of the CL would have soon worn off seeing us 0-5 down to PSG and getting knocked out at the first opportunity.

Being a fan is about experiencing those special days that live in your memory forever - not monitoring your club's balance sheet and annual accounts.

Absolutely. I was in my teens through the 80s when Wembley seemed to be our second home. Those days were superb for us as fans as well as for the players. I know the priority has to be staying in the league but if you offered me the choice between a trophy or 4th place I would take the trophy every time.

Exactly.

There us no substitue for a winning mentality.

And for those decrying the European competition we are in, you should remember that Cloughs first trophy at Forest was the Anglo Scottish Cup.

No competition is too small to win.

Cloughie also took the County Cup seriously.
(I was at both legs of the Anglo Scottish cup final against Orient)

I’ve watched that clip of the Hibs fans at Hampden dozens of times.

Absolutely superb song and scenes

I wanted the CL over the cup for the transformative financial impact it would have delivered the club, which could allow us to make semi final / final appearances more frequent

The ability to strengthen with quality elevating our starting 11 and bench. Thats all.

We can still do this and seeing clubs interested in our bench players is positive, now need to move them out while recruiting intelligently again

My wife is a Spurs fan. In the last few years, they have played in the Champions League on a number of occasions, and even reached the final in 2019 when they unluckily lost to an early penalty for the Scousers. Despite that consistent level of performance, everyone takes the piss out of Spurs for not winning anything- or they did until the Europa Cup win this season. Since we live in north London, I cycled with her to the trophy parade, which was massive- they closed the North Circular. Everyone was excited and delighted, especially the players- that dickhead Richarlison was waving the trophy, and Pedro Porro was beaming. While Daniel Levy might have been looking at the balance sheets, everyone else wanted a trophy.

That’s just the difference between fans and club ownership

Fans don’t care about finances.. we want thing that are tangible to remember.

Owners just want more money to finance the club
