The FA mulling over offer to buy Wembley

I think it's a great deal [1] because tax payers might get some money back and [2] there will be hard cash rather than promises for grass roots and women's football. My only conditions would be for FA Cup semis not to be played at Wembley and have the man in the white coat lead the community singing.

For me wembley died when the FA and the media bent over and allowed the Wembley Towers to be removed. any other building or construction of national importance would have been protected. Only £150k to have moved them enough to become part of new stadium.

Do we trust the FA to do anything good with the money?

If they pay back £116m to the Govt it will help [it will help Mrs May fund the DUP for a while longer]

Wow, is that true about the 150k? That is astounding that they didn’t keep them.

A shame the new Wembley is such a soulless bowl with virtually nothing to make it stand out as a national stadium. For the money it cost I’d have expected a more interesting design and better experience. The “arches” are quite pathetic.

I assume that you have sold your home Wayne, and are renting it back on a tenancy agreement ?

It's never a great idea to sell a tangible asset unless absolutely necessary.

West Ham sold Upton Park to rent the London Stadium.
I wonder how the owners of the club will get on if they need to raise finance in the future with no assets to put up as collateral.

There are plenty of countries that don't have a national stadium, eg Italy, Spain, Germany[?], Holland, that have all done pretty well over the years without one, although Wembley will always be available for England games under the proposed deal. So, what's the problem?

errr ! because we do have one Wayne.

I wouldn't necessarily advocate building one now, but the fact that it's there is reason not to sell for short term gain (if any at all)

As for Wembley always being available.
Who knows?
This guy could easily sell it on in the future, then they sell it on again and again until …. blocks of flats worth a site more that the purchaser is offering.

Question ?
Are the FA desperate for funds?
If not, then keep Wembley as the national stadium.

Remember the Dome. ?

Surely, the FA could have got any money they wanted from SkySports or placed a 'tax' on Premier clubs earnings.

Why not read the proposed deal? Why not look at enforceable covenants attached to the stadium? Is the FA desperate for funds? Well precious little is percolating down to grass roots football etc. Remember how long the facilities iin Burton were delayed as the stadium was built.
