The Ezri Konsa Thread

Ezri doesn't like to court publicity does he. Just goes about his job with the minimum of fuss and goes home.

I did feel sorry for him at Fulham at half time when he was walking with Tyrone back to the bench and as they passed the Villa fans Tyrone got his song sung to him and there was barely any acknowledgement of Ezri. !!!

@Villan57 was in my thoughts lol.
I did say back on page 19 2 years ago when most on here were slagging Konsa he'd be fine if he had a better CH than Mings next to him and so it has come to pass. It turns out it wasn't Ezri's fault at all. He's in the England squad now he's got Pau next to him

And the manager remember.
Page 19 was towards the end of fan favourite Scottish title winner Purslow vanity project Slippy G's reign of terror.
Every player should get a free pass from those awful times.

All the credit in the world goes to Dean Smith for signing him
I wish I could have sat in on the recruitment sessions for Emi, Ollie and Ezri as well as the Rogers and Youri. Probably Duran too.

I'd love to have seen how Dean and Lange (and Cutler) reviewed and decided on the players. You compare our situation with PSR to Newcastle and, a big part of it comes down to not needing to replace the entire starting XI. I wonder if it surprises any of that old recruiting team to see these players be so successful. I suspect it doesn't.

It would be an immense privilege to participate in any professional-level analysis by Unai, but I need to know more about the Rogers situation. Its among the Top 5 transfers any club has made since Unai took charge and honestly Youri is probably there too.

Carlos thread gets bumped everytime we don't pick up 3 points and he plays, so only fair.

Absolute shocker all round. And not because he is a CB at RB.

Diabolical defending for the first goal.

And some said he should play at RB instead of Cash. :surrender: .

Yeah. He IS NOT a RB.

Yeah . That gives some leeway on his shocker. But as a CB I expect him to deal with a simple long ball. He didn't. He gave Cash the hospital ball at Forest.

Same for Pau v Fulham away. Same for Emi v Leipzig.
It's pretty shambolic.

I swear they are too busy thinking how they can bring the ball down to control a nice 5 yard pass backwards or sideways rather than dealing with the situation with proper defensive play i.e head the fucking thing away, or kick the fucking thing away.

I've not seen us as poor defensively since the relegation season.

Yeah I agree, Konsa is overrated in my opinion, and whilst Pau is one of my favourite players he's been shocking this season.

We are that bad defensively I'm now thinking the Pau injury might be a good thing as we are forced to change things. Which a few months ago would be unthinkable.

Pau is looking like a shocking defender tbh.

We all know Ezri Konsa is a good defender but not at right back he's not. Why do you use an important defender like him to fill in a position where others are poor? Not the answer is it?

I still maintain he is a good centre back but our defence more broadly is severely lacking any dominant defenders - we've seen Konsa with Mings work very well but Konsa and Torres together you have two centre back who don't like competing physically, I think Konsa is the better all-rounder than Pau who for all of his ability on the ball is just really bad at the defensive basics.

Unfortunately I have no defence of his ability at right back, I genuinely think he is a really bad right back in both attacking and defending phases. Attacking wise he offers literally nothing which is obvious because he's a centre back, but defensively he has a tendency to be too passive and usually he wants to back off and defend the space rather than engaging the player - it just doesn't suit playing at right back as you need to be a bit more front footed to disrupt the opposition winger before they get into a dangerous area or get a good cross in

Looks slow and ponderous on both goals last night, I don't think he's been fit all season.
The whole defence is slow and too busy passing the ball around aimlessly in slow motion.
I agree with Melon, there’s always an excuse for Konsa whilst others get singled out. Konsa has been very poor this season regardless of him playing at right back or centre half.

He has been more like a Chrysler than a Rolls Royce this season.

He's become old Konsa, throwing his arms up and complaining at everyone else whenever we concede despite the fact that he's at fault.
