the extra two or three signings...

Vital Champions League
is the 'we might not be able to stretch to 22 players' more dc smoke screen? we are dragging our heels on luque - is this budget related. have we really nearly spent all the budget on 19 players [20 if you include mccombe]?

i wonder if a good start, and a couple of sell-out home crowds before the end of august might be key in persuading the board to increase the budget slightly to cover an extra couple of loanees. a win in the efl cup - with a decent round 2 draw - could even pay for another player on loan.

big month ahead. uti.

Personally I think it's just down to having multiple options available and maybe as Danny said taking stock. I mean for example if plan a becomes yesterday's formation would you sign many more wingers?

It's a bit late on the day but not too late.

I was wondering that a good draw if we get through to the second round of the league cup would help us get an extra signing.
Also we have the Notts game at home early that will be a sell out.
Maybe we're waiting on other clubs signing players so we can our final few new players in, don't forget the loan window doesn't shut until August 31st, plenty of time.

In the 'line ups please'thread I couldn't find room for Habergham in my 18 strongest all fit match squad so I think this is more about having the right quality players coming in rather than a we must have a squad of 22 so him over there will do irrespective of what they bring to the side.

I accept that if injuries/suspensions bite then just 19 is risky but if by some miracle all 19 we currently have as the first team squad keep going it is probably the best in our league.

Realistically though we may sign Luque on a deal as he is getting praise from Danny but this will probably be the last permanent deal. Any others will be probably be loans once teams in the Championship or L1 decide who they don't need for their squads come mid August. We could then possibly reduce the amount of wages paid to the parent club as it's almost like doing them a favour

he keeps calling them wide left midfielders - players like andrade i suppose that are two footed and can play in multiple positions. i wondered why he was trialling centre backs in the boston game, but can see why he might want one extra centre back now.

I think it was more like having squad/match fillers for the Boston game as we had only just played a championship side a little over two days earlier with our mainly first choice defence.

i get the feeling that has been going on to a degree all pre-season.

so we start the season with 19, with the plan being to add to the squad in late august at a lower cost. makes good sense, as the small squad can cope for a few games while they are all fresh.
also would a player like murray be available as a free agent after august 31st, if he doesn't find another club?

Unregistered players are the same as loan deals so would have to be signed by the 31st of August.

Can see a few more coming in myself and as we near the starting gate some players will have to settle for deals offered as opposed to their lofty aspirations set by their greedy slimeys(agents).
Expect the phones to be ringing off the hooks this week.
We cannot afford to go into the season short of bodies and a few skins short of fitness,we saw where that ended up and the January window is not the best time to do business.
LOANEES AWAITING in the wings?

I think we're in a decent position right now. It's hard to see any squad players - let along "dead wood" - in the current 19 on the books. Add another 2/3 by the end of August and we'll be there.

Danny seemed pretty confident Bozzy will be in the squad for Saturday so that's 18 for the squad for the game then.
Just a case of adding a bit more cover in case of further injuries/suspension.

Openings still for left sided players to balance the attack.
can this Heybridge lad play on the left?
no natural leftfooter in midfield? difficult to find?
cover at right back if Eardley injured
post match comment by DC after scunny intimated we still needed depth in squad. or did i mishear ?

If that becomes plan A, we need another centre half unless Bossie is being moved back there permanently.

Think he does usually lay on the left but is naturally right footed. However I think.his left isnt just for standing on, so he can cross and shoot with his left. This is just from highlights reels I have seen.

I feel the left side needs bolstering and as Sam has a bone edema issue then this focus is more pertinent.(toffolo taking a knock would further exacerbate the issue, but at least Wharton could slot in)as at cov.

the ability to attack effectively down either flank is a major asset it gives balance and this gives the opposition plenty to think about.
2 marauding wingers left/right giving, more crosses, more corners, more goals from set plays.
Currently we are a right sided set up in most attacks.
