The Emi Martinez Thread

should of saved goal 1 and potentially goal 3 .
He looked knackered as did Mings and the entire defence to be honest

Incredibly harsh to say he should have saved the 3rd goal.

The first one he had set himself to save the first shot so was a little wrong footed for the second one , but I saw nothing from him to suggest he was knackered or below his best.

From memory there was not a lot he could do about the third but the first was right at him and wasn't exactly well struck, wasn't the easiest to get down to but a keeper of his quality has to save that. Very soft.

Probably not surprising as Martinez and Mings both got much less of a break due to international commitments. Targett has missed part of pre season due to injury. Cash coming back from a bad injury from the end of last season as well.

Our fractured pre season won't have helped either. Possibly should have looked at playing a couple of players who have had more minutes pre season. Easy to say in hindsight as I know what the reaction would have been if we'd lined up with Hause or Freddy in the back 4 and lost.

EMI simply showed he his human after all yesterday. He'll no doubt be disappointed with the first, the second was an utter fluke and if anyone thinks he should have saved the third they're simply nit picking. Sometimes it's ok to praise something the opposition does rather than using anything and everything to criticize the club you support. And he didnt look tired either...he just made one mistake.

If he'd led with the foot rather than the hands he'd have got it. But it's hard to dig anyone out really as everyone was slightly off it. And the obvious answer is pre-season.

Just been reading that both Emi's have been called up to the Argentina squad for their next WC qualifiers. As its on the red list they'd both have to quarantine on return and miss 2 PL games. Surely they cant be made to travel if its on the red list! I noticed Liverpool have already kicked off over Salah having a similar situation with Egypt

Yeah, saw that Argentina is on the red list earlier and thought uh oh!.
Didn't realise the squad was released.

We need to be putting our foot down here in my humble. That is not good at all.

Buendia I think we could cope without for a couple of games, but our depth at GK isn't great. Steer has barely played for the last 2 years and the 3rd choice is just a kid.

Dougie also likely to be effected

and most damagingly Wes (potentially)

with the 'big clubs' whining suspect there'll be some sort of exemption
