The Emi Martinez Thread

When you look at some of the dodgy keeping around we’ve seen in the euros from top keepers, I’ll whisper this quietly… do we have the best goalkeeper in the world right now?

That free kick that Pickford let in against Denmark because of his unfortunate genetics, I genuinely think Emi would’ve got that comfortably.

And the Golden Glove for the most clean sheets at the tournament.
Arsenal must be kicking themselves for preferring Leno to Emi.
Definitely buy of the season in the PL last season.
Just need Agent Emi to convince Alvares to join the Villa Jamboree now👍🤞

He’s priceless, on the way to becoming the greatest Villa goalie in my lifetime - only reason he isn’t there already is he needs a few more seasons out of fairness to Bossie.

We've had a few good ones and a few not so good ones. Big Brad was great too.

Bossie made 179 appearances for us. He was 27 when he left for Utd and then retired 10 years later. Over those 10 years, he made 40 appearances.

What a brilliant achievement for him and without him they wouldn't have got to the final, great stuff.

The great thing is, he comes into the new season absolutely full of confidence with twice the experience under his belt.
How this guy hasn't played more games in his career is beyond me.

And most of those 40 would have been in the season immediately after he left us. Bos was a great keeper for us but he wasn't as good all round as Emi is right now. However Emi needs to win something in Claret and Blue to be considered as a great.

I was one of a fair few who didn't think we needed a new keeper. "Heaton will be back and Steer is an adequate number 2". Then when we paid 18m for an Arsenal keeper off what was basically 10 or so games at the end of the last season I didn't get the thinking behind it.

A good example of why I'm not a scout. Best keeper we've had in years, seems a great character as well and is now representing our club on the international stage. Obviously the biggest story from the Copa America is Messi winning his first international honor but the next biggest star of that tournament is Emi.

Yes. #metoo .
Didn’t see it as necessary. Thought it was the last position we need to sort last summer. Turns out he signing of the season and will be for many a season.

And this is just typical isn’t it. Just seen the SSN piece on the game. They mentioned a goalkeeper in the report. But oh no , not the the winning goal keeper who plays for a premier league club. Nah , don’t be silly , pictures of and special mention of ‘Liverpool keeper Alisson who consoled a tearful Neymar’.

Just fcuk off.
