The Emi Martinez Thread

I just want him to start saving shots. He has been at fault for many of the goals we have conceded already this season. Or hasn't anyone noticed?
They aren't looking mate. I'm sure Emi knows he should have saved 3 or 4 of those he's let in so far this season. He's a perfectionist and he's a long way from that so far this season

'They' aren't looking .
Very true.

I rarely go and Google .....Aston Villa player mistake.
You kinda get what you search for init, that's the point of a search engine.

Wonder what result you get searching for Emi Martinez saves 24/25. Oh. That also proves something....he is 'saving shots'.

He definitely should have saved the first goal and he has let in a couple of softer looking goals so far this season. But you also have to acknowledge that he made two top drawer saves, one from Phillips and the other with the guy going through one on one.

I think his standard has probably slipped just a little bit and this happens to most keepers. I think people hold keepers to too much of a high standard. Courtois, Ederson, Allison, Donnarumma all concede their share of soft goals over the course of a season.

Exactly, if all great players never made a mistake we’d have a lot of boring 0-0 results. I’ve never seen the perfect player who is at the top of their game for 90mins every single game - it’s just ridiculous that people are desperate to find fault and blame someone, it’s a team game and we rise and fall as a team.

You didn't see Paul McGrath?

True enough, Villan57, but would we swap him for any other keeper?

We just need to find a GK that saves every shot he ever faces. Oh of course and doesn't celebrate a career and life defining moment in way that's disagreeable to the flakes.

He's in a very male oriented group, probably fairly immature where this kind of behaviour among peers is acceptable.

"We" put these highly paid young men on a pedestal, expect them to be whiter than white, never ruffling any feathers, and forget our own mistakes as youths in similar groups - we've all been in teams or environments where this type of behaviour was the norm and even encouraged. Not making excuses for the behaviour but it's all just part of growing up.

After 4 years of Emi being Emi, it will be a very long time before he receives any criticism from me.
He is the most dominant keeper I have ever seen at the Villa.

Schmeichael was on the decline, I don't remember Bosnich too well, Friedel and Given were amazing shot-stoppers but were rooted to their lines. The rest range from okay to absolutely shocking.

I would say Jimmy Rimmer was a bit better than just ok, but he might have been a bit before your time.

The Bos was great and perhaps the best pure shot stopper I've seen but was hapless anytime he had to use his feet. Friedal was pretty good, a great all rounder. Given I never rated, chocolate wrists. David James was pretty good but I can't stand the guy so he gets minus points. I always thought Sorenson was solid enough as well.

David James cost us the FA cup

I totally agree. He's in the top 3 keepers in the world. His international record speaks for itself. I still maintain that there have been a number of goals that he has got his hand to and had not been able to prevent them going in, as well as a couple of near post efforts. I honestly don't want him to prove me right tonight.....
