The Emi Martinez Thread

Can you imagine being an Arsenal fan after yesterday? They've lost both matches to us by an aggregate of 0-4, two clean sheets and a wonder-save by the 'keeper deemed surplus to requirements by their management.... And said 'keeper has come out publicly and said he has taken a step-up in his career to boot.....
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

What we're not doing is going out spending big money on names. The owners won't do it and I think they've shown there's another way. It's moneyball being used properly. They buy players at a reasonable price who can adapt and contribute to our way of playing. Emi is part of a great defence. And we have the youngest match-day squad in the PL. We are going to get better.

Laughable really. Leno is what I would call a decent 'keeper, nothing more. Having said that, with the exception of Ederson (and he's a non-traditional keeper that's suited to the style) I can't see another keeper in the league that I'd rather have at Villa....

I'd put him, my top 3 favourite players, right now, his attitude is what sets him apart IMO. How refreshing to have a player with an uber professional attitude, wanting to be the best and acknowledging that it is a step up. He's dumped a club in a spiral for one that's ascending.

Totally agree with Leno, the league is awash with a bunch of bobby average goalkeepers. Keepers who dont make mistakes but also who dont make a difference. McCarthy and Ramsdale at Southampton are the epitomai for me. Pope is good, Alison (had a mare today) and Ederson are both excellent. Evertons keepers are horrendous. There probably like 5 good keepers in the league, oddly Johnstone is probably one of the best just doesnt have great distribution.

(I didnt know epitmai was a word, I thought it was still epitome).

Fully agree with that.

Emi Martinez for.......... England?

Both Ray Parlour and Trevor Sinclair says he should be called up for England via 'homegrown status'. He has been called up for Argentina but never played for them.

Interesting or what?

He's better than anyone else England have right now, but I cant see the Argies letting us get away with that one. The guy who is currently Argentina number one is nothing special, so I'd guess Emi will get his shot with them when they next play

I'd personally be against it. He's Argentinian, he will be Argentina number 1 for the world cup if he keeps his form up. He's not English, as good a goalkeeper as he is. He can't play for England anymore than he can play for Blues.

Didn't stop John Barnes or Raheem Sterling playing for England or many more who weren't born here

I couldn't give a shite about England tbh. I'd imagine it's a matter of time before he's Argentina #1 anyway.
