The David Bowie Thread

I still feel his loss however I cant believe its 45years ago this song hit Top of the Pops.
For those younger members of the forums there was nothing else, no MTV not hundreds of channels it was TOTP or nothing.

45 Years I cant believe it, I think everyone has a favourite Bowie song...

Being a bit younger, the first Bowie song that got me was was this from Lost Highway, the 1996 David Lynch movie and is probably why I'm more into his obscure, weirder stuff. But being able to combine that with all the classic chart stuff he's done too shows what he talent he was.

Couldn't possibly name a single favourite.

I do love John I'm Only Dancing, it's just so strange. Also Ashes To Ashes marks an era and was superb. Anything off Ziggy! But even Lets Dance marks a wonderful era, I thought his 3 80s albums were fantastic.

Sorrow is another great song.

I could be here all day. Heroes... ffs. Col8 you trying to blow my mind?!

Oh and his last two albums were blinders. The words on the last album so stunning once you realise he was dying whilst writing/recording it.

Look up here, I'm in heaven,
I've got scars that can't be seen

I love Lets Dance, the extended play 12" version, they mood, the brass.... just brilliant!

But yeah, so many to choose from it's impossible to name one really.

Slow Burn by Bowie is a brilliant track, if your unfamiliar with it give it a quick Google.
:186: I know Mick Ronson never played on it but if he did ...........

Yeah, Heathen was an album I didn't pay that much attention to at first then revisted and loved it

I love Bowie but think that the best track he ever made was not a solo effort, I absolutely adore Under Pressure, recorded with Queen. As far as I know it's the only recording to feature on the "Best of" albums for two different artists.

Other than that, I'm a huge fan of various different tracks through several eras but ones that really stick out for me are China Girl, Changes, Life on Mars, Space Oddity and Star Man, with special mentions to Heroes, Andy Warhole and Absolute Beginners.

How about the laughing gnome.

What was that all about.

If you had the Belgian demonstration pressing of the Laughing Gnome (also from 1967) a copy recently sold for more than £2300 at auction.

He released it as a kids song and got slammed because the song was juvinile, Bowie had the last laugh when it reached No6 in the charts....... years later.
