The Cricket Season 2016 Thread

Pride of Lions

I am now official
Well, the Cricket season is upon us, starting tomorrow, so expect heavy rain or snow....Lol

The Bears open up their campaign with a County Championship Division One match against Middlesex at Lords.

Hopefully this season will be an improvement for The Bears after what has to be said, a disappointing season last season.

Come on You Bears!

Well if it's a Bears thread then I wont intrude, but if we are also 'allowed' to discuss the Pears then I'll be happy to participate.

Go Pears!!

Rainy start to the season for us. Not a ball bowled at New Road in our four day county championship opener against the men of Kent. Five points each.

Yeah, I belatedly noticed that EOT.

I was hoping nobody would notice my mistake......

The Pears having the game washed out last week was the only way they were going to avoid defeat !!.

The Bears struggling at the moment with Middlesex 212-3. I think we won the toss as well.

It seems sirdennis as if we agree on most things Aston Villa related, yet when it comes to the ancient but wonderful game of cricket, we are poles apart.

Strange that.

Pity that you opted for the dark side when deciding to follow that lot from Edgbaston.

You know, I would be more than happy to welcome you into the New Road fold should you ever come to your senses and realise that it's so much better being a Pear than a Bear.

No chance of that I'm afraid Glen. Having been contracted to them for 2 seasons in the 80's I have many links with them still and my good friend Ian Westwood has had a very good county career with them.

Mind you I know Stuart Lampitt pretty well and he had as equally good career with the Pears. I also had the fortune to play against the great Sir Ian Botham in his very first game for Worcestershire.

Your cricketing history sirdennis is very interesting, and something to be very proud of. And in saying that of course, I realise that I don't know the half of it.

I certainly cannot get anywhere near to competing with you and the very high standard in the game that you aspired to, although I did make the school team if that makes any difference!!

No, as far as our support for the Bears and Pears goes, we'll have to agree to disagree, while hoping that both teams enjoy successful summers.

Howzat.

I have some nice memories of playing at New Road and I don't really mind the Pears.

Maybe if The Bears come up against the Pears this season we could have a day out at the game. I could wangle some tickets for sure.

That is a very nice gesture sirdennis. I thank you.

That would indeed be a very pleasurable experience, even if 'my lot' got the worst of the days events.

I don't know sirdennis. We are unbeaten so far. The fact that a ball wasn't bowled during the four days is irrelevant.

Ha .Yes I would imagine the water table is very high at New Road at the moment. A day out at the cricket putting all that is wrong with Villa to rights sound ok to me. Mind you it might need to be a 5 day test match to discuss it all.

Can i include spending friday evenings at my lads cricket club having a beer with the other dads while nets are going on. And sitting on my fat arse occasionally having a wonder around the boundary on a balmy Sunday watching him play matches in this thread?.

Roll on the cricket season!

Excited, and looking forward to the summer to try and put the past 8/9 months of football hell behind me!

Went to a couple of 20/20 games last year at Edgbaston, and just received my tickets for the Sri Lanka ODI on 24 June. Really need to try and fit in some County Champ action this season.

It's a great release from all the moneyed, social media led BS of the football. Proper sporting action (for the most part!) and much more civilised all round for me.

Is New Road not flooded yet?

It's a lie JPA. A complete and utter myth. Don't believe it.

New Road has never in it's lifetime witnessed flooding at any level.

People are well aware that all of our talented cricketers can walk on water, so they naturally presume that New Road see's floods.

It's a malicious lie, no doubt initially started by the Edgbastonite's.

Most certainly MD.

Which club does your lad play for ?

Middlesex currently 449-9 against the Bears! :10:

Need a couple of big scores once we get in to salvage anything here I fear. Time for Sir Ian of Bell and Sir Jonathan of Trott to step up to the crease, quite literally!
