The Conor Hourihane Thread

When Grealish took that free kick that went harmlessly wide last night, I thought what a shame that the only player in our squad that can score free kicks is out on loan

Not this again :arrghh:. The old Avfc 2021 team is good enough to have a player in the side who's contribution is to take set pieces.

Irrelevant as he wouldn't have been playing last night as his appearances, or as it is complete lack of them, since November prove . This isn't NFL where we have special team players.

Spot on , our dead ball play was abysmal last night, but it's not just that it's Connors eye for a pass, an assist and his goal threat from open play. We've taken him out and dropped in Barkley who looks to be a downgrade overall considering he had 12 weeks out and has been shit since back, overall he's had 2 good games for nearly £3m in wages is pathetic

Its not American football where you can bring on a specialist to do one specific thing. If the only argument for Hourihane is that he's good at set plays then it quite frankly proves he's better off where he is. Jesus Christ I swear some people would still see us with Bruce in charge and a midfield of Hourihane, Whelan and Jedinak in the championship. Move on.

I commented before reading this so sorry for stealing your point.

Very fair comments on his part. With the amount of work he put in helping us get promoted and stay up it was probably a bit disappointing to see Ramsey picked ahead of him. Ironically Smith doesn't seem to fancy Ramsey much now either.
Yep i sense a few regrets at this hasty decision

Very honest, very fair, totally right in fact, if you see a kid being used ahead of you, when you have that much experience, you surely would put 2+2 together and realise it is time to move on.

Proper professional, could just sit on the bench and collect his wages, but he wants to play football - and despite what some say - he plays it very well.

To be fair Barkley isn't doing much better. It's not like he gets stuck into a tackle is it, which was oneof the criticisms aimed at Conor.

I love Conor but always said I'd bne happy for him to be benched and eventually sold as it would show that we are improving the playing staff, but I'm not convinced Conor to Barkley is a massive step up.

There must be a few players feeling frustrated by the lack of opportunities they’re getting, just hope it doesn’t lead to any tension or ill feeling within the squad.

With Ramsey if he isn’t going to play he should have been loaned out for regular game time, I’m sure several championship clubs would have loved to give him a chance

It's not the only argument. He got plenty of goals and assists in open play
