The Conor Hourihane Thread

He passed the ball to the Bulgarians which started the move for their goal.

He was generally anonymous, defensively weak, mixed bag of set pieces and a couple of good passes.

A standard game for Hourihane at club and international level.

If he wasnt so lightweight and passive in the middle and defensive 3rds of the pitch you could make a case for him. If someone gets shoulder to shoulder typically he loses the ball.

He comes alive in the final 3rd and he does have that little bit of quality and consistency with his end product.

When we have the ball he is useful but in physical games where we might not see much of the ball its hard to include him.

Congrats to him, but how weak is that Irish midfield?

Its absolutely shocking, we're so bad they've brought in Stephen Kenny as a coach to try and bring on younger players into the squad at a much earlier stage.

And trying to have a real coach in charge for once who might have some chance of improving the side in the long run.

I have no Irish in me, but I do like seeing the Irish do well even if the feeling isn’t mutual back over the pond. That’s one of the weakest Irish sides I’ve seen in a long time, an alright defence but going forward it’s pretty poor I have to say.

Making the assumption Barkley is direct competition for Hourihane - given the lad likes proving people wrong about what he can do and where his career will go - it's win, win for me as it forces him to further improve his game.

My only question about Barkley is which one are we getting? The lad who has shown how good he can be, or the one who looked like he'd stopped bothering to put the effort in unless it suited him?

It has to make Hourihane more determined for me.

Great player for us, a real unsung hero of our modern times. With better players around him he will just get better
