The Championship 2019/20 Season Thread

Wednesday night's last games are going to be fascinating

3 teams with a chance of 1 automatic spot
2 from 3 for the play offs

....and at the bottom still technically 3 to go down from 7 ( though Hull's goal difference all but makes their position impossible)

Then you consider Wigan's impending 12 point deduction plus possibly Wednesday having a deduction post season you appreciate what a great league that division is

Yesterday's results:

Derby County 1-3 Leeds United
Martin 54' | Hernández 56', Shackleton 75', Clarke 84' (OG)

Barnsley 1-0 Nottingham Forest
Schmidt 90'+3

Birmingham City v Derby County
Brentford v Barnsley (Sky Sports Mix)
Bristol City v Preston North End
Cardiff City v Hull City
Leeds United v Charlton Athletic
Luton Town v Blackburn Rovers
Millwall v Huddersfield Town
Nottingham Forest v Stoke City
Reading v Swansea City
Sheffield Wednesday v Middlesbrough
West Bromwich Albion v Queens Park Rangers (Sky Sports)
Wigan Athletic v Fulham

Apparently, we won't know which three clubs have been relegated until late August, assuming there are points deductions, appeals, legal challenges, crying, kicking, stamping of feet and general childishness still to come. If the season does start on 29 August, that is quite a tight schedule to arrange!

I think whoever finishes bottom will definitely be down but, as you say, the other two places will rumble on.

The fixture list might read like an FA cup draw with replays pending!!

I suspect that is exactly what they will have to do. Hull will almost certainly finish bottom after tonight's fixtures, but will not know which division they are going to be in until a couple of weeks before the season begins. Quite how that impacts on retained lists and player recruitment, I have no idea. A nightmare for those clubs.
