The Calum Chambers Thread

Shrewd business, again. I want him to feel like he has a chance to be a starter. New scenery might do him good. He will have a point to prove. The free xfer, his age, his experience are all positives.

Now for B. Kamara!

Why I like this transfer:
1. He's 27, and as we all know, defenders rarely peak before this age.
2. He's versatile and will provide cover and competition for Konsa and Cash.
3. As a young, inexperienced player he was playing at a club that has been consistently in the upper echelons of the premier league. We can say what we want about Arsenal, but like it or not, they have finished (much) higher than us in the league in recent years.
4. The lack of a fee means this is a win-win for the Villa. If he doesn't work out then we've lost no more than his wages and would still likely get a small fee if sold.
5. Similar to Emi and Coutinho, he will likely want to prove a point (to himself mostly) that he's good enough.
6. He has played far more games in the premier league than the player he has replaced in the squad.

Calum’s two years younger than Tyrone and I’m sure will want to make an impact here and get in first team. Whether he can or not we’ll see but I don’t think he’s just coming for bench warming. Steve is ruthless and Calum has an opportunity here.

doesn't add much really - bit more bloat to the wage bill.
doesn't take us forward altho prob better than a pointless loan from utd - maybe we can sell him now he's under contract ?
meh

too many L's in the thread title for our latest bench warmer tho
I think Clalllum Chalmblers is a sensible if not terribly exciting signing. They can't all be former most-expensive players in the world.

It's a long way from the days your hero was signing Habib Beye for god knows how much and putting him on a 4 year contract at £40,000 per week to sit on the bench though.

Hey, Lidl's is far better than Asda!!!!!

I do admire your commitment to the concept, though. Good work.

I did find it amusing just as the news broke, the bald fella on Sky who was desperate to look like he knew something about it suggested it was good business by Arsenal moving Chambers on before his contract expired in the Summer!
Isnt all they've saved a few quid in wages?

I've only ever seen him as a full back and I think once as an emergency CB.

Just checked some statto site and he seems to have played a similar number of games at CB as RB. Most of his games as a DM were during his loan spell at Fulham, although I think that was the season they got battered by everyone and famously did a Fulham
