The Aston Villa match day thread sponsored by the Roy Keane, Sex machine.

Really enjoyed the performance yesterday. I think most of us would’ve been happy with a point, so to get the first win on the board really lifted the weekend for me.

I think the notable individual performances have been covered well. With two central defenders out,I thought that Aina and Diomande did well coming in under difficult circumstances. It was nice at times to see Aina pop up on the right as well, providing support.

Munoz seems to be settling quickly and Delap, well it looks like my thoughts about Chelsea messing him up might just be true, as he does look confortable, confident and using his attributes well, albeit in a short space of time so far.

I’m not expecting us to now push on immediately, we’re still picking up Glasner’s system, but like some other reds here, I wasn’t expecting the last three performances. It shows a lot of promise if nothing else and getting one over on Villa made it even sweeter.

As a personal preference, I too would like to see Jesus starting. I think he’s earned that over rhe course of the last season and he can develop further under Glasner.

It would be amiss of me to finish without also saying;

Palace LOL
Derby LOL

Petty, but who cares?

I am also keeping a level head and not getting to high with wor wins or too low with wor losses.

That was obviously not the Villa of last season and it was a good time to play them. Still though second half was very good and all signs point to us heading in the right direction.

That reminds me chap how is Tom these days chap? Still free falling?

I cannot believe anyone paid us £116M for Anderson. A half decent water carrier is how I saw him, a modern day McGovern.
People saying he was the best Forest player they had ever seen etc.

incredible statements !

Neil Webb pre Man Utd Was different level, and Roy Keane needs no explanation.
Agree 100%. Whilst Anderson is a terrific player in his own right he’s certainly a long way off ‘one of the best’ to put on the Garibaldi, but this is symptomatic of the hyperbole surrounding players in the modern era. As you say Webby, Keane and I’d even say Bohinen were better all round players than Anderson. This certainly isn’t intended as a diss on Elliot but I always felt he didn’t score and assist enough to warrant super star status. Hopefully, in an England shirt at least, he’ll prove me wrong in the long term

Steve Hodge, Steve Stone, Archie Gemmil to name but 3 more who were all better than Anderson in my opinion although from a different era granted.

Stone was a winger really. Hodge and gemmil (dont forget scott) are all club legends.

Not sure why we are all saying ando isnt that good now. His definitely not shit
I guess we’re trying to minimise the loss. For my part there’s no doubt he’s a class act. It’s encouraging that we are not a one man team and arguably we won’t miss Anderson as much as we thought we might. Reminds me of the Holy Grail where the knight gets hacked to bits, but it’s just a “flesh wound”

One of Villas smallest players on the pitch scored with the header

No guesses needed for who he beat to the header

To be fair, Delap could've cleared that if he'd timed his jump.

Villa were trying that short corner routine all match though and we should've been better at stopping the cross in the first place.

What concerns me is that starting slowly, at least for the first 15 20 minutes is becoming the norm.
As long as we are able to contain the opposition and maybe lure them in some sort of comfort zone that's fine, but if we conceed , it will be an uphill struggle. We need to press the opposition early and not let them settle.
