The Anyone But England Euros Thread

Vital 1st Team Regular
There is already an England Euros thread. Here's one for things about the other teams, preferably with Nottingham Forest links.

I'll go first: last season, Forest had the man that is now, in Nick Pope's absence, third choice goalkeeper for England. Now, we have a goalkeeper that has started recently for Belgium and has kept Thibaus Courtois out of their Euros squad. That seems to me to be an improvement.

I like the sound of this thread, all I want now is for Pope to state that England will definitely win the thing.

Problem with international tournaments is that players have little to no break over the summer. Sometimes in negative mind frame. They return late missing some of pre season and some return with injuries, as Forest know. I believe Forest only have Sels on International duty. This could be to our advantage at start of season. Good long break with families, settled squad, minimum churn, settled management, solid pre season. Could have a dozen points on table before De Bruyne kicks a ball. Will fixture list be kind?

I think it's between us, France and Portugal. Our CB partner with Stones and a LB worry me (alongside Southgate's inability to pick our best team/tactics)

Hoping Branthwaite, Quansah, Guehi are the answer in 2 years, and we can actually find a serviceable LB going forward. Leif Davis maybe in a couple of years?

if anything like prem form is reproduced and looking at how footie has been going, its more about who scores the most goals, with fewer clean sheets anyway soo that bodes well

players like gomez, collwill and mitchell all look decent enough

Yeah. For this tournament I’d play Gomez at LB and his job is purely to defend and tuck in to support Maguire. Let Walker be the outlet on the right side

Forgot about Colwill coming through also. Mitchell is bang average but if we’re still struggling there, having 1 player playing a limited basic role

i do like walker but trippiers crossing to Kanes head is such an obvious weapon too , especially if we start trying to walk the ball into the net too much

How many Forest players are actually named in their country squads?

Sels
Mangala (is he still a Forest player)
McKenna (has he left yet)

Is that it?

Im still half way between Spain and Portugal currently so my odds of joining the celebrations one way or another are pretty hgh :)

can't hurt, tho thats on the somewhat extreme assumption that Merryknackers wont still change 20 players and several backroom staff eh?

Current or ex- Forest players in France v Belgium include Samba, Sels and Mangala. In the knockout stages of the European Championship. The club has moved on a long way.

Our CBs have been the best players for us in this tournament. The basket cases have been Saka, Bellingham, Kane and Rice. Those are the issues
John Stones was dreadful for Slovakia's goal.

Several teams have gotten extremely close. We just haven't played anyone good yet. Everyone half decent (Denmark and Slovakia) have scored a goal against us.

But I admit the problem is not just Centre half. The fullbacks are shite as well.

Guehi had been good but was very lucky not to get sent off during the Slovakia goal. If the striker had gone down it would have been a penalty and red card.
