Here are the rules: (copy this to paste)
In your status update, list 12 albums that have stayed with you, but only 1 per band/artist.

Yeah, a few pearlers there as well mate. RATM I nearly put but do love Renegades at the moment and think it is the only covers album I've ever liked. Even the Bowie one I thought was pretty awful (Pin Up's) apart from Sorrow.

Automatic is amazing, think I lean just 1% towards New Adventures In Hi-Fi... I did love the ball blast of Monster as well!

Joshua Tree... such memories! Running To Stand Still and Exit... perfect!

Manics have always been a fascinating band as well haven't they? Seen them live a couple of times, very good! Holy Bible was one of those that I just couldn't key into myself.

A good thread and some light relief from 100%.

A condensed list not in order of preference but music I do play all the time and music I could not be without.

A diverse catalogue and most likely some songs you have heard your parents play!

EDIT: Oh dear - I've only just read the rules JF....Sorry!

I hate people who can't follow the rules, I mean, it clearly says 12 albums for a.... ooooooops ... my bad ! lol

Yes, but greatest hits, that is a cheat ... !!!!!!!!!!!

1. Pulp - Different Class
2. George Michael - Faith
3. The Smiths - The Queen is Dead

8. Alex O'Neal - Hearsay

11. Simply Red - Picture Book
12. Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

Not the "coolest" of lists - but I still play all of these albums , and they all have special memories of life.

Thought Best of albums were cheating so didn't add any, however, its probably worth mentioning the album that probably got me interested in listening to music (along with Bowie - Space Oddity) when I was about 5 was "Neil Diamond - Best of" so that deserves a mention

CHANGED

Cannot believe I missed The Queen is Dead out my first list - I feel ashamed !!!.

Manics have always been a fascinating band as well haven't they? Seen them live a couple of times, very good! Holy Bible was one of those that I just couldn't key into myself.

Yeah, I've probably seen them live more than any other band! I think Gold Against The Soul, The Holy Bible and Everything Must Go are my favourites, 3 classics back to back. Holy Bible was one of the first albums I ever got into, it's still probably the darkest album I know of, Richey was losing his marbles and the lyrics are genuine. And when the songs aren't about his mental state, there's some cheerful tunes about the Holocaust and serial killers too!

1. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
2. Oasis- Whats the story morning glory
3. Supergrass- I should coco
4. Embrace- The Good Will out
5. The Prodigy - Fat of the Land
6. The Verve - Urban Hymns
7. Inxs - Kick
8. REM- Automatic For The People
9. Green Day- American Idiot
10. Blur- Parklife
11. Johnny Cash - The Man comes around
12. Pulp - Different Class

Difficult one this!. Had to go for the era where i can truly say that it was my era ( however brief it was!), like my folks say the 60's were their era. Therefore brit pop heavy list it is.

Best off albums which would be on there had they been allowed:-

Stevie Wonder - only recently discovered but by god what a genius.
The beatles - red and blue albums
The Kinks
Buddy Holly
John Lennon
Madness.

Also soundtracks that are so bad that they are brilliant that take me back
Rocky 4 and Top Gun !

Massive attack - Blue Lines
Portishead - Dummy
Bob Marley - Exodous
U2 - Joshua Tree
Bombay dub orchestra - Bombay Dub Orchestra
Oasis - Definately Maybe
Sex pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
Air - Moon Safari
Renaissance -Sasha & John Digweed
Prodigy - music for the jilted Generation
Primal scream - screamadelica
stone Roses - The Stone Roses
Happy Monday's - pills n thrills and bellyaches
The Clash - London Calling
Soul II Soul - Club classics vol. one

Some Albums have memories of my youth, others still get played regularly.

9. - Future Legends - Fruupp
10. - August - Eric Clapton
11. - Ennismore - Colin Blunstone
12. - Breathless - Camel

That was really tough....... keeping the list down to 12 that is.

In no particular order.

1.Misplaced Childhood - Marillion
2.The Gift - Midge Ure
3.The Chase -Marit Larsen
4.Brave New World - Iron Maiden
5.Bryter Layter - Nick Drake
6.I'm Alive - Jackson Browne

8.1987 - Whitesnake
9.Laughing on Judgement Day - Thunder
10.Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors - Fish
11.Selling England by the Pound - Genesis
12.Bat out of Hell - Meat Loaf

Queen are one of my favourite bands but I didn't include them as I love their compilation albums most and the rules say no compilations. Other than that, another issue for me was limiting to one album per band/artist.

Darn it, I didn't get any ELO in my list.

Edit: Or Ozzy

I'm doing well in these lists apart from Glensider, only got 1 (In the court of king crimson) and Pride, only got 3 (division bell, 66 to timbuktu but that's a greatest hits so he's a naughty boy!! and Clapton August)

Melon Donkey - 28/2/2016 22:13

4. Embrace- The Good Will out
11. Johnny Cash - The Man comes around

Had the Embrace one but didn't stick with me and it went. Not got any Johnny Cash

holtelower - 28/2/2016 20:04

6. ELO - Time
7. Alex O'Neal - Hearsay

Got ELO hits, not got O'Neal. Surprised you pick Liverpool over their first, interesting that, their first was close to my list their second would be nowhere near!

chicovilla - 28/2/2016 22:34

Portishead - Dummy
Bob Marley - Exodous
Bombay dub orchestra - Bombay Dub Orchestra
Air - Moon Safari
Renaissance -Sasha & John Digweed

Some stunners there in your list, only ones I've not got are above, Bob Marley I've only got Legend

Green Tea - 28/2/2016 23:30
2. Misplaced Childhood
4. A Hundred million suns
9. Soft Cell live
10. The White Room
11. X&Y

Villan Of The North - 29/2/2016 08:35

1.Misplaced Childhood - Marillion
3.The Chase -Marit Larsen
5.Bryter Layter - Nick Drake
6.I'm Alive - Jackson Browne
9.Laughing on Judgement Day - Thunder
10.Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors - Fish
11.Selling England by the Pound - Genesis

Few real favourites of mine in your list, Midge The Gift is outstanding, Maiden I love. Not got the above, I'm a fan of Genesis but found their early albums dated badly so I'm 'and then there were three' onward really

First time I went liking them but not having massive expectations, I won the tickets and went because Ian Brown was their special guest support. But thought them excellent. Then saw them, think it was their hits tour, at the 02 so nice intimate venue. Might try and re-visit the Holy Bible one day but I have problem got enough favourite 'intense' albums perhaps!

This 12 albums restriction is a real bummer, I want to add Marchin' Already - O.C.S

Right then I'll start again with the 12 albums that have been played most throughout my time and a couple newer ones - not in any order of preference:

1, The Association - The Association Live.

2, Beatles - Revolver.

3, Procol Harem - A Salty Dog

4, Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding.

5, The Jam - All Mod Cons.

6, The Undertones - Listening In ( BBC Radio Sessions 1978-82)

7, The Dubliners - 30 Years A - Greying

8, West Side Story - Leonard Bernstein Conducts Kiri Te Kanawa
& José Carreras
9, Glen Champbell - Meet Glen Campbell.

10, Soft Sell - Non-Stop Cabaret.

11, Strawbs - Strawbs.

12, Roxy Music - Siren.

On reflection it's pretty hard to keep it at 12 and I have left out so many great collection albums from the likes of Neil Diamond, OMD, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Smoky Robinson & The Miracles I really could go on and on!
