The Alan Hutton Thread

He's not the reincarnation of John Gidman or Mick Wright but there have been worse right-backs at the club.
(Cammie Fraser anyone?)

When others are hiding on the pitch I don't think Hutton shys away. He'll kick lumps out of others and always tries to get forward. Certainly a poor player but a professional among divas over the years. A team of Huttons wouldn't do a lot but imagine we had some players with his attitude.

He likes to forward at pace [his pace] and then more often than produces nothing. Getting back ... never as quick, in fact it is at a canter to be kind. Too much space left in behind them which impacts the right midfield, also doesn't read the game. My opinion full stop. Effort is just not good enough, ffs if I played for Villa I would put a shift in but I would be crap.

I guess you could say that the terms of the contract provided incentive for his run of good form but all the same, what he hell was Fox doing committing us to another possible year? What would Hutton have done had the clause not been offered? Stomp off in a huff and join a bigger club?

Hutton has wroked hard despite being dropped on from a great height at times. All the same, we will be wasting the end of the season if Bree isn't selected ahead of him now that we are just about safe. And unless Bree takes a surprising nosedive Hutton should really see out what should be his last season with us from the comfort of the bench.

Personally I think we have bigger problems to worry about than the Scottish Cafu getting another years contract . Especially as we have only a crock in Delaet and an injury prone 19 years old untested kid Bree as cover.

I don't think Mc'Cafu has upped his game it's just the rest have been so poor lately and he's just played is normal aggressive game . He's our quickest defender b a long way , yes he gets sucked in to cover the pair of snails we have in the centre which is when he needs cover himself . One on one not many winger get the better of him or even attempt to after he's clattered them a few times .

I have just read this 'apology' from a Vlogger regarding our very own Alan Hutton.

I think he shouldn't be on his own either...

Vital Villa have had a nice response sent through from Alan Hutton who won the February Player Of The Month vote.

he will always be slagged. his first season was terrible, but he has won alot of fans with his hearts-on-sleeve performance the past 2 seasons. mind you, he is pushing 33 and runs fast. a professional and an athlete.

there was another article where a fan saw Hutton busting a gut in an oxygen-deprived chamber during Lambert's reign. lambert brought the villa team to US for pre-season and left hutton behind.

he is someone who clearly cares for the Villa.

As I said in the match thread I think he had his best game in a Villa shirt for us yesterday. He was actually decent on the ball . We have 2 solid full backs now in my opinion.

Can't question his commitment but his technical skills are lacking.
Let's see how he fares against better opposition this week. He is often out of position defensively and better teams will exploit that over and over again.

When the back gets forward the midfield should adjust to provide cover. That wasn't happening; it wasn't his slowness getting back which was the problem.

You've hit the nail on the head there, mate. Football is a team sport. We are always so desperate to pick on our latest 'shit' player. If the other players weren't all fucking up, we wouldn't notice the individual mistakes.

He just saunters back and he doesn't opposition players in acres of space where he should be. Some things will never be agreed on by all, just part of the debate.

To his credit he gets forward and into some decent positions but there isn't no end product as he cannot cross a ball or pick out a man .
For where we are currently he is ok but if we are to mount a challenge next season he will have to Be replaced (de Laet ?)

With James Bree now on our books and Ritchie De Laet set for a return to first team action following his knee injury, Alan Hutton has been talking about competition...

Yes, we never got to see what de Laet has in his locker, but also James Bree has obviously been bought with the future in mind. He's looked ok on what we've seen so far, and I'd be happy to see him get more game time once we are definitely safe (which is pretty much now I would say - Wolves and Bristol City are right in the shit, and Rotherham are finished already).
