Tottenham striker Harry Kane's profile may never have been higher.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane had arguably the biggest night of his career so far in midweek.

The England star scored two goals in a high profile Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, proving he can deliver on the big stage.

With Kane's tremendous goal record it was only a matter of time, and that is good news for Spurs and England.

Pundit Rodney Marsh believes though that it could be short lived for Tottenham, and expects a world record bid for the striker next summer.

Kane has been linked away from Spurs every summer for the past two seasons, with Manchester United interested.

The striker signed a new contract last year making him the club's top earner, but if he wanted to, Kane could earn a lot more elsewhere.

He will get a chance to face Real Madrid twice later this year in the Champions League group stages.

Those games really will elevate Kane to elite status if he scores the goals to defeat them, and could sway the hearts of Real in the process.

Do you reckon we would break our wage structure in a big way to keep him? I think we would go big to keep him but him only.

We could never replace him so pointless selling him even at 300m.

Do you reckon we would break our wage structure in a big way to keep him? I think we would go big to keep him but him only.

We could never replace him so pointless selling him even at 300m.

Assuming that we are in our new stadium for 2018/19 season; we can plan for upping our gross salary ceiling (even the target percentage); it will take around 3 season for us to hit peak revenues per head, so we will see incremental growth in turnstill and events revenues - the big short term uplift could well come from our commercial (partnership/sponsorship) revenues (we lag behind the top 5/6 revenue clubs above us).

Of course the take up of corporate/hospiality / high value seat season tickets for exclusive area's will set the base line for our growth in wage roll - and I think it might go something like this; an additional £25-30 mill in 2019/20 £30-45 mill in 2020/21 and £50-75 Mill in 2022/3 beyond that, depending on the stadium utilisation, it's fairly easy to forecast an additional £100+ mill on our annual wage bill.

IF we can hold onto our key players through this transitional stage, we'll have the financial ability to be competitive - but ultimately if you go to Barc, RM, PSG you'll guaranteed to bank league/cup and maybe even European medals.

Phil Neville reckons Harry Kane will have to move elsewhere in order to achieve his goals of breaking into the world's elite player group. The truth, however, is quite different: Kane is already well on his way.

The Spurs and England forward this week acknowledged that consistent performances in the Champions League are necessary in order to be regarded as one of the world's best, but after a stunning brace in the win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, Kane took another giant step towards the status he desires.

As Tottenham banished the Wembley hoodoo and Kane simultaneously put another dry August behind him, he moved onto 103 goals in Spurs colours.

Now, at 24 years and 48 days old, Kane has taken just 120 appearances to reach the 80-goal mark in the Premier League.

Only the competition's all-time leading scorer has done so in fewer games.

The problem with Phil Neville and most other ex-players is that their mindset is stuck in the past and what they consider the status quo.

The problem with Phil Neville and most other ex-players is that their mindset is stuck in the past and what they consider the status quo.

It also should never be forgotten that even during their 'new' pundit roles, they're ties to their clubs still exist and it's a known avenue for clubs to use to get the message out that they want targets to hear.
