The 2025-26 Summer Transfer Window Thread

And have managed a handful of appearances during the most tumultuous time in recent seasons under a manager who seems to have no plan or system for playing football. It's a far better place to judge them if we can get the ship steadied, nail down our identity as a team, and climb back towards midtable obscurity.
You dont spend 200mill and hope for results next year. We could end up in the Championship

Mcatee and hutchinson have never shown anything to justify those price tags.

Mcatee's fee isnt troubling at 22m, possibly rising to 30m. If it does rise to 30m, he's been a success.

Hutchinson is 20m or more overpriced. Thats a massive, massive overpayment for this guy.

I didn't say anything about next year. I said I don't think it's fair to judge them in this current team on current form weathering this current shitstorm.

Yes, you do- when you have already built a solid, established and competent side that finished 7th and is more than capable of being comfortably mid table.

When you have already done the hard work to get that, you absolutely do spend £200m on players that can do a job this season but the real job they will do will be further down the line, when you are forced to sell the ones doing the big jobs for you now

We have done well enough to be able to think long term in our business rather than short term. This is why we aren't signing crap like Origi or Ayew anymore.

Winning the Euro under 21s is a start, but you pay for potential and despite going to all but one of the home games so far, I haven't seen anywhere near enough minutes from either to even think about writing them off.

And you may remember I was dead set against signing Hutchinson

Angus gunn considering his options in January.
Not surprising... he wants to to the World Cup and saw us as a reasonable chnace of getting top flight game time. Up to the moment we went and bought another Brazilian to occupy his bench slot.
