The 144th Open Championship

One Bloody Number
Really looking forward to this, despite Rory being out. Such a blow that. Would have been great to see Rory and Spieth going head-to-head. I'm sure we'll get plenty more chances to see that over the years though.

Really difficult to bet on this.... but I will coz I love a gamble.

Would have piled on Oosthuizen but he's been drawn in Tiger's group for the first 2 rounds, and Tiger seems to be the kiss of death for anyone he plays with... just look at Rickie Fowler at the US Open. Dunno whether it's the added pressure of the crowds, or Tiger's shitness rubbing off, but it's put my right off Louis.

Think the weather will play a big part. Forecast heavy rain and 40PMH winds on Friday, and dry but high winds on Saturday, so I don't think the leader board will resemble a normal leaderboard with all the usual suspects at the top. Gonna come down to who can handle the weather... I'm thinking back to when Darren Clarke won it out of nowhere.

The only wind/rain specialist I know of is Padraig Harrington, but he's not been in much form for the past few years... might be worth an e/w punt though.

Other than that I'm thinking the Brits will have an edge of the yanks in general just coz they'll be more used to the wind/rain and links golf.

Will have a long hard think today and tomorrow before parting with my dosh.

Anyone else gonna be watching or having a flutter?

Some of the more interesting groupings for the first 2 days -

08:33 Ernie Els (SA), Brandt Snedeker (US), Tom Watson (US)

09:00 Bubba Watson (US), Ian Poulter, Charl Schwartzel (SA)

09:11 Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia (Spa), Patrick Reed (US)

09:33 Hideki Matsuyama (Jpn), Dustin Johnson (US), Jordan Spieth (US)

09:55 Louis Oosthuizen (SA), Jason Day (Aus), Tiger Woods (US)

12:50 John Daly (US), Jason Dufner (US), Miguel Angel Jimenez (Spa)

14:12 Martin Kaymer (Ger), Jimmy Walker (US), Adam Scott (Aus)

14:34 Matt Kuchar (US), Phil Mickelson (US), Henrik Stenson (Swe)

14:45 Rickie Fowler (US), Justin Rose, Nick Faldo

That Daly, Duffner and Jiminez group looks fun!!! I'd be following that if I was there.

Faldo, out with Rose and Fowler is a good'n too.

Rickie Fowler , Justin Rose , Paul Casey and Adam Scott.

The winner will come from one of those I think.

Of the yanks I think Jimmy Walker and Brooks Koepka look decent, plus of course you just can't rule out Jordan Spieth, the man is a machine!

Why not? Did you see him last week over in America? He was T112 after the 1st round, and ended up winning, shooting a career best 62 in the 3rd round.

He just doesn't seem phased by anything at all. He's definitely the best most in form golfer there and knows how to get over the finish line, it's just can he handle the conditions is the only question.

I know I wouldn't back against him at the moment it was a rhetorical question really.

Be ridiculous if he won again though.

Ok, Bets are on, now to sit back, enjoy and watch the money roll in.

Got -

Casey @ 33/1
Kopeka @ 60/1
Harrington @ 150/1
Bjorn @ 200/1
Levy @ 225/1

The above are all e/w (top 7)

Also had the following e/w (top 8)

Stenson @ 22/1
Scott @ 22/1
Watson @ 40/1
Dubuisson @ 66/1
Fleetwood @ 66/1
Luiten @ 125/1

My reasoning is...

Bjorn, Koepka, Levy, Dubission and Luiten seem to have the best tee -off times both days avoiding the worst of the predicted weather.

Scott, Stenson and Watson just hit it long, and can over power the course.

Casey and Dubisson share the course record, so know how to play it.

And finally Harrington and Fleetwood are just bad weather specialists.

Bjorn and Levy both off to flyers in the calm conditions.

Bjorn -4 thru 9
Levy -3 thru 7

But what about this Lingmerth guy. 7 holes. 6 birdies. All on Par 4's.

The only hole he didn't birdie was a par 5 ironically where you'd expect him to.

6 birdies form 6 par 4's though, thats some going!

This is just bloody ridiculous. Lingmerth now -7 thru 9.

He's birdied all 7 par 4's he's played. And then Parred a Par 3 and a Par 5.

When you're hot you're hot but that's just plain ridiculous.

Make that -5

Why didn't I just throw all my money at him?!?! 8/1 looks a bargain now, he's gonna walk it.

The kid is incredible.

Looks unbeatable and a reminder of the days when Woods won tournaments by 10 shots.

Talking of which Woods is 4 over after 7. The commentator on the radio predicted before he started that he would shoot at least one score of over 78 this week.

Woods needs a reality check. Keeps talking himself up, that he can win, that he's near his best again, and yet every tournament he's just an embarrassment.

Gonna be a great day today. Gutted I'm at work so will only get to see the last hour or so.

2 of my bets (Harrington and Scott) still in with a shout, but to be honest I'll be very surprised now if Spieth doesn't close it out.

Course seems to be playing relatively easy again today. Branden Grace already -6 thru 10 for his round.

Weather set to turn around 14:00 though so the leaders will face a tougher challenge.

I think -14 will win it.

The amateur if he wins , won't get any of the prize money. That would be a bit of a bummer.

I hope you don't make the same mistake with Buddy , Deano.
