The 143rd Open Championship

One Bloody Number
Really excited for this.

Shaping up to be the most open field ever, with Justin Rose just shading favouritism at 14/1. Can't remember a favourite being priced that big before.

Can Justin turn round a horrible year for British Sport? I personally don't think so. Think he's peaked too early, having won his previous 2 events. Very unlikely he'll win 3 on the trot.

My money is on Adam Scott @ 16/1.

World No 1. 2nd and 3rd in the last 2 Open Championships, and an amazing record in majors in general over the past few years including a couple of wins.

Also finished top 10 when the Open was last at Hoylake in 2006, when he wasn't half the player he is now.

£20 on the nose for him @ 16's.

Also got £10 on Jim Furyk @ 66/1 and £10 on Bubba Watson @ 50/1.

Might have another tenner too, and split it £2 each across 5 outsiders around the 200/1 - 300/1 mark just to add a bit more interest.

Anyone else watching / having a flutter?

Yeah it really is.

I remember when Tiger Woods was dominating, he'd go into majors at around the 3/1 mark.

Even McIlory when he was firing was usually favourite around 8/1.

14/1 just shows that nobody can really pick a winner, which should make it interesting.

I've gone for win bets on my 3, but there's bound to be some really good e/w value out there too. Will have a look later.

I'll be watching Deano.

I haven't worked out my bets yet, but I totally agree on Rose, unfortunately. I hope we are wrong, but it is so hard to win 3 in a row.

I have been watching Spieth recently, and he could do well again. Maybe worth an e/w bet. Donald has been OK recently, as well. Might have a wager on him.

Whatever the betting, I'm really looking forward to it.

I can't see Rose being out of the top 6 though. His confidence must be sky high and that counts for a lot and his putting has improved no end.

He could easily win it.

Mine bets all on now -

Mine all done now -

£20 win Scott @ 16/1
£10 win Furyk @ 66/1
£10 win Watson @ 50/1

95p e/w Oosthuizen @ 125/1
95p e/w Dubuisson @ 125/1
90p e/w Manassero @ 150/1
80p e/w Harrington @ 175/1
70p e/w Wood @ 200/1
70p e/w Reed @ 200/1

3 of those were free bets I'd got in my various accounts, so I've only actually spent £20 real money.

Certainly like to see a Brit or a European win it. I think Rose must stand a good chance and as sirdennis says, his confidence must be sky high at the moment.

I might watch the closing stages but I think, for what it's worth, golf is one of those pastimes that's better to play than watch! I'm i right, Deano?

Yeah Skeggy it is definitely much better to play, but if you are a keen golfer it's surprising how much watching golf is actually enjoyable.

I'm actually going to the Wales Open at Celtic Manor again this year. It's a great couple of days if the weather is nice.

Not really. Golf is a noble sport, played by gentleman.

Those vulgar Americans shouting stuff like that gets on my titties.

I have £20 on Rickie Fowler at 40/1, he's doing pretty good today. You can't win it on day 3 but you can sure as hell lose it!
